Marcus stood up. He walked straight up to Joselyn and said solemnly, “Thank you.”
He could silence everyone in the hall, but he couldn’t wash away the dirt that had been thrown at Edith.
If it weren’t for Joselyn doing this, Edith’s first–place win in the National Piano Competition would forever be criticized.
“Thank me for what?” Joselyn said while blinking playfully. “For holding you when you were a child? Or for making a special trip back to visit your father? Or…”
She deliberately glanced in Edith’s direction. The back of Marcus’s ears turned bright red. The usually noble and composed young man suddenly seemed awkward and flustered.
Joselyn laughed heartily. She thought, ‘Boys in love are so amusing. Just a little teasing and they will blush. My only regret in life is that I’ve never had a son as handsome as Marcus. This is also what she envies about Stella.
At that moment, Edith walked over. She looked at Joselyn seriously and said, “Thank you for clearing things up for me, ma’am. I would like to invite you to lunch.”
“I’m not speaking up for you, but for my own integrity. I’ve been a judge in the piano world for so many years, and I’ve never gone against my conscience.” Joselyn replied.
Then she looked disdainfully at Karen and Hallie nearby and continued, “You have a natural talent for piano. If you intend to continue your studies, we can keep in touch.”
She patted Edith on the shoulder and turned to walk toward Harvey, who was waiting nearby.
She needed to give her student a proper warning. If Harvey ever did something like this again, she would no longer allow him to appear anywhere under her student’s name.
The people in the concert hall gradually began to disperse.
Marcus hesitated for a moment, then took a couple of steps forward. “How about we grab lunch first?” he asked Edith.
Edith said politely, “Sorry, I still need to wait for Kerrie.”
After the competition, Kerrie had been surrounded by a group of parents, and several piano teachers from Bonrea had also gathered around her for guidance. Edith did not want to disturb them.
Marcus pressed his lips together. He could feel her distance and coolness, but he had no idea why.
He wanted to pursue her recklessly, like Dodo would, but that would only be a one–sided pursuit. He didn’t want it to be one–sided.
Edith’s phone suddenly started vibrating. A call at this moment was like a lifesaver, able to dissolve the current awkwardness. She quickly pulled out her phone. It was a video call from Zachary,

“Edith, has the piano competition ended? How did it go?” Zachary asked. He and Joseph’s heads were pressed together in the screen, both asking about the situation.
Edith replied with a smile, “Not bad. I got first place.”
“Wow, I know you’re the best,” Joseph said excitedly. “Let me see your trophy.” Zachary gave him a smack on the back of the head and said, “Idiot, Edith told us the award ceremony is not until tomorrow night. There’s no trophy yet.”
Joseph pouted, “See? Zachary is bullying me again. I want to report him. While you were away, he played games and basketball every day and didn’t do his homework.”
“You little brat, stop spreading lies,” Zachary covered his mouth and explained to the video call. “Don’t believe him. I’ve been good these past couple of days. I finished all my homework. If you don’t believe me, you can check when you get back.”
Edith chuckled and shook her head. They were two little rascals. She stepped to the side, and the video camera panned past a face behind her.
This face was far too striking. Zachary saw it immediately and shouted, “Edith, you’re with Dodo.”
Marcus was at a loss for words. Although he no longer disliked being called Dodo, every time he heard someone use that name, he couldn’t help but frown.
Fortunately, this person was Edith’s younger brother; otherwise, he would have shot a cold glare long ago. At that moment, he didn’t glare at all. On the contrary, the corners of his lips lifted into a faint smile.
He had been left aside by Edith, and his frustration was beyond measure. Zachary’s calling him at that moment was giving him an opportunity.
He stepped forward and said calmly, “Zachary, Joseph, hello. I’m with Edith now. You don’t need to worry.”
Zachary and Joseph were speechless. They wondered, ‘Did he just call us Zachary and Joseph? Since when did we have such a close relationship with this pervert? Wait. Did he mean “with Edith” in that way?‘
Zachary’s face filled with alertness. Before he could say anything, Marcus said, “Yesterday, I ran into Durel.” Zachary’s eyes instantly widened after he heard that.
Durel, the world’s most famous basketball star, had been Zachary’s idol since childhood. He loved playing basketball because of Durel.
“Durel gave me his jersey. I don’t like playing basketball, and I’m not sure what to do with this jersey. Zachary, can you give me some advice?” Marcus asked in a calm tone, as if he were asking for guidance.
Edith held her phone and, to make it convenient for him to talk with her two younger brothers, she had to stay very close. In truth, she wanted to hang up the call, but doing so would have seemed impolite.
Marcus had spent two nights sharing a room with her two brothers, so their relationship should be pretty good.
Zachary hugged his phone excitedly and said incoherently, “Well, Dodo. Oh no, Mr. Larson, if you don’t know

what to do with it, why not give it to me? I–I’ll pay for it.”

The corner of Marcus‘ lips curved even more. He added, “This jersey isn’t valuable to me. I’ll bring it to you when I go to Sunspire.”
Zachary jumped up in joy, dropping his phone, and Joseph picked it up, his face full of disdain. Joseph thought, ‘Zachary is so useless. Just one jersey and he’s already bribed.‘
Marcus said coolly to Joseph, “Hey Joseph, have you heard of that game Starlight King?”
Joseph liked gaming, so he knew about it. The game was promoted three years ago and was being prepared for an official launch. He heard it was a beta version, so he wasn’t even sure he’d qualify to be among the first to play it.
“I got a beta account, but I don’t like playing games. If you want it, I’ll give it to you,” Marcus said.
“Absolutely, I want it,” Joseph said, nodding vigorously.
Edith was speechless. She thought her brothers were so unreliable. In her exasperation, she accidentally turned off her phone. The two on the video immediately snapped back, their eyes wide in shock.
Zachary smacked Joseph on the back of his head and shouted, “See? You got bribed by a game account. Edith must be angry.”
Joseph yelled back, “Who got bribed first, then? You’re treasuring a used jersey this much? Zachary, I look down on you.”
Zachary held his head down and snapped back, “I look down on you more, hmph!”
Vincent, standing downstairs, shouted, “You two little rascals, what are you arguing about? I’m planning to go to Bonrea myself to bring Edith back. Are you two coming?”
