In the concert hall, some parents hadn’t left yet, still gathered around Kerrie, talking. Their voices drifted from afar, forming background noise.
Edith held her phone, unsure how to start speaking. She thought, ‘Marcus never confesses to her, so rejecting him will feel awkward. But if I have to maintain frequent contact with him like before, I can’t manage it‘
She pressed her lips together and said, “I’m going to find Ms. Clark. Mr. Larson, please make yourself comfortable.” She turned and walked away, without a trace of hesitation.
Marcus stood in place, his beautiful, thin lips pressed into a straight line. Except for the brief moments when his other personality appeared, this was the first time in his life that he didn’t know what to do.
He longed to get closer yet couldn’t, wished to leave yet couldn’t bear to, so he watched from afar, and somehow, that felt enough. Beneath his long, dark lashes, his deep eyes hid every emotion.
Kerrie was surrounded by a large crowd when a man in his forties stepped forward to speak to her. “Hello, Ms. Clark, I’m the vice president of the Bonrea Piano Association. We sincerely invite you to join the Bonrea Piano Association,” that man suggested.
Kerrie felt completely bewildered. Just moments ago, a dozen or so parents had shoved their bank cards at her, asking her to give guidance to their children on piano. A dozen Bonrea colleagues had handed her business cards, saying they wanted to keep in touch.
Official staff from the National Piano Competition had invited her to attend several lectures and interviews.
And now, the vice president of the Bonrea Piano Association was inviting her to join. One wave of events after another hit her unprepared. She had no idea how to respond.
Meanwhile, standing in the shadows, June was nearly grinding her silver teeth to bits.
She thought, ‘These honors should have been mine. My dream has always been to join the Bonrea Piano Association. Don’t be fooled by the word association. It’s a highly authoritative official organization in Bonrea. Even as a university piano professor, I wasn’t qualified to join!‘
Kerrie, of course, had no idea about all the twists and turns behind the scenes. She politely declined, “I’ll think it over. My student is here for me, so I’ll take my leave. Please excuse me.” Then Kerrie slipped out of the crowd as if escaping.
Edith couldn’t help but laugh. She teased, “I think I just heard someone inviting you to join the Piano
Association.
Kerrie replied with a nod, “It seems Sunspire also has some kind of Piano Association. I became a member a few years ago, but it didn’t make any difference.”
Edith chuckled. She thought, ‘An ordinary member doesn’t feel the advantages the association’s platform can provide. But if one can rise to a small officer position, the resources and opportunities they’d gain will be unimaginable.
Edith asked, “Ms. Clark, are you thinking of developing your career in Bonrea?”

Kerrie shook her head and replied, “My husband and children are all in Sunspire. Our home is in Sunspire. How could I possibly leave everything behind to come to Bonrea as an outsider?”
Kerrie thought, ‘Sunspire may be small, but it’s my home, and the place I will never abandon‘
“You should try to secure a position within the Sunspire Piano Association,” Edith continued. “No matter how small the position, once you’re inside, you’ll have access to resources. For any piano competitions in Sunspire, it’ll be no problem for you to serve as a judge.”
Hearing this, Kerrie immediately understood. She thought, ‘For those local competitions in Sunspire, the judges are always nominated by the association. Just one turn as a judge, and your value shoots up. People in the circle will listen to what you have to say.
‘Although I’m a high school piano teacher with solid skills, my experience is confined to the world of teaching, and my status in the industry is far behind those heavy hitters.’
Edith’s words seemed to open a door to a whole new world for her. Curiously, she asked, “Edith, how do you know even more than I do?”
“To prepare for this competition, I researched quite a bit, so I know some things,” Edith replied.
Edith had done thorough research and, drawing on her experiences from her previous life, knew even more than Kerrie. As they talked, they made their way to a nearby restaurant.
Edith had won first place and insisted on hosting a meal for Kerrie. The two sat facing each other, chatting while eating, and the atmosphere was warm and lively.
As they talked, Edith suddenly felt an intense gaze fall upon her.
She frowned, glancing left and right, but saw nothin
Yet, that gaze remained.

Helpless, she activated the Super Vision granted by the System. Sure enough, she saw someone familiar sitting in a private room not far away. It was Marcus.
The private room was separated by glass walls. People inside could see out, but those outside couldn’t see in.
If not for Edith’s Super Vision, she would never have guessed that Marcus was in the private room nearby.
The moment she looked up, Marcus’s gaze didn’t move away. Their eyes met.
Marcus immediately looked away and turned to the waiter beside him. He asked, “Didn’t you say people outside can’t see inside?”
The waiter replied with a nod, “This is high–tech one–way glass. Guests in the main hall can’t see inside.”
Marcus was frustrated. He was certain Edith had noticed him. He thought, ‘Would this make me look like some sort of peeping tom?‘
He immediately pulled out his phone and called his assistant. “The restaurant near the International Concert Hall. You have ten minutes to get here,” he ordered.

The assistant sounded like he was about to cry. “Mr. Larson, did you forget? You just sent me to Yamal on
business.”
The assistant thought, ‘Even if I had a rocket, there’s no way I could make it back in ten minutes.
Marcus was left speechless. He hung up and sent a message to Kane, telling him to notify the company that whoever was closest to this location needed to get there as fast as possible. He couldn’t let Edith think he was stalking her.
Luckily, an executive from Nexus Group happened to be nearby with his wife and kids. The moment he got the message, he rushed over and arrived in just five minutes.
Marcus had already ordered the food. He said calmly, “Just sit here, finish this steak, and then you can leave.”
The executive was trembling, completely clueless about what Marcus was up to. ‘Is he going to fire me after I finish the steak?‘ he wondered.
He wanted to ask something, but he noticed Marcus seemed distracted, so he could only eat the steak silently with tears in his eyes. It tasted great, but he could barely swallow.
Before the executive even finished his steak, Marcus saw Edith stand up to pay the bill with Kerrie and get ready to leave.
His lips tightened as he pushed open the door of the private room and walked out.
He called out, “Edith.” Edith stopped in her tracks. Although she had already seen him, she had been pretending not to notice.
She raised her brows and asked, “Mr. Larson, what are you doing here?”
“I had an appointment with a client here,” Marcus said calmly. “Where are you going next?”
Edith thought, “That executive from Nexus Group is trembling like a leaf in front of Marcus. They didn’t even discuss anything. Marcus just sat there watching the poor guy eat a steak.
I’m not stupid. How can I not understand why Marcus did this? What I can’t figure out is, he isn’t Dodo, so why does he suddenly seem to like me so much?”
