Cedric ended up at Sunspire High School because of a misstep on the SSAT, but his grades were excellent. He outscored the second–highest student by over a hundred points, making him stand out. Because of that, he didn’t get along with most of his classmates.

Still, there were a few students who cared about their grades, and they’d stick close to Cedric so they could ask him for study tips and academic help.

Cedric ignored their jabs and whipped out his own phone, pulling up the news site in a flash. As he zoomed in on the photo, he spotted Edith, Vincent, and his two younger brothers. They were all in Bonrea together.

The article was all about Joselyn’s dramatic love life, but when he swiped to the next headline, it switched to coverage of the National Piano Competition awards ceremony.

The first place was Edith, not Hallie. Cedric froze. He thought, ‘Could Edith be this outstanding?

‘Since Edith returned to Sunspire, I only saw her once at the welcome party that day. Other than that, I didn’t know anything about her.

‘All I want is to study well, get into university quickly, and leave the suffocating Lovett family behind.

‘But now, this family seems a little different from before.’

Cedric closed his book and took leave to go straight home.

No one was there except Dallas. Seeing Cedric return, Dallas was utterly shocked. Dallas asked, “Cedric, why are you back?”

Cedric might not care much about anything, but out of all the Lovett kids, he was easily the most accomplished.

Cedric feigned ignorance and asked, “Where are Zachary and Joseph?”

Dallas replied, “Edith went to Bonrea for a competition and ended up taking first prize. Mr. Lovett took Zachary and Joseph to bring her home. They should be back tomorrow morning. Why don’t you stay the night? After lunch tomorrow, you can head out again.”

Cedric took a box out of his backpack and said flatly, “Dallas, please give this to Edith for me. It’s a present for her winning the competition.”

He put the gift down and left right after. But instead of heading back to school, he made his way to the special school. It had been two weeks since he last visited Shaun.

According to the teachers, Shaun was recovering quickly. He was starting to speak again and was willing to play with the other children. Everything seemed to be improving.
