Reborn, She's Back for Revenge novel Chapter 43

The hall was filled with elegantly dressed guests, the air thick with perfume and the shimmer of fine fabrics. Groups of people clustered together, chatting animatedly. Edith squeezed through the crowd, heading straight for the back lounge.

‘He was just here a minute ago. Where did he go?‘ Edith wondered.

She went from lounge to lounge, pushing open each door. Luckily, the guests had only just arrived, so no one was using the lounges yet.

When she opened the fifth door, she froze. At the coffee table sat a teenage boy, totally focused as he worked on an exam paper.

When he heard the door open, he looked up and locked eyes with Edith for a second, then dropped his gaze and went back to his exam. But even after several minutes, he still hadn’t written a single word.

Edith stepped inside and called softly. “Cedric.”

Cedric was her little brother. He was fifteen, just starting his first year of high school. He’d always been a top student. Even after their mom passed away unexpectedly, his grades never slipped.

Edith couldn’t shake the feeling that Karen had something to do with why Cedric didn’t get into the best high school in Sunspire. She honestly hadn’t expected Cedric to show up at this party.

Cedric put away his exam paper and stood up, his expression icy. He didn’t even spare Edith a glance as he strode out of the room.

Edith realized just how tall her little brother had gotten. He was only fifteen, but already pushing six feet, nearly a whole head taller than

her.

But later, she would never have to look up at Cedric again, because after his accident, he was always in a wheelchair. Still, Cedric was never defeated. Out of the five siblings, he was always the one they were most proud of.

Edith watched his back as he left, pressing her lips together, saying nothing. She didn’t need to interfere in Cedric’s life. He would still be the pride of the Lovett family.

She stood there in a daze for four or five minutes. Just as she was about to keep searching, Cedric came back. He said coldly, “I dropped my pen in here.”

He walked in, picked up his pen from the table, then suddenly thrust a gift bag into Edith’s arms. “Put this on.” With that, he quickly disappeared through the lounge door.

Edith suspiciously opened the bag and found a brand–new evening gown inside. ‘Did he overhear people gossiping about my dress being cheap and go out of his way to get me a new one?‘ she wondered.

She took out the dress. It was a form–fitting, ocean–blue gown, probably from the boutique next to the hotel.

Out of nowhere, memories from her previous life surfaced. After she was bedridden in the hospital, unable to move, someone would come by to see her every few days.

But that person never stepped inside her room. He would just sit quietly outside her door for about an hour, then leave, the sound of wheelchair wheels slowly fading down the hallway.

She knew it was Cedric. Even though Cedric had never once started a conversation with her, after her reputation was destroyed and everyone shunned her, he still came to visit her again and again.

“Edith?A head suddenly popped into view. “I’ve been calling you so many times. Why were you ignoring me?” Dodo looked at her, all pitiful and pouty.

He was still in yesterday’s wrinkled suit. He glanced at the dress with disdain. “This dress is so ugly, it doesn’t suit you at all. Let’s throw it away.” He reached out to grab it.

Edith quickly grabbed it back. She didn’t really like the dress, but since it was from Cedric, she had to keep it safe.

She folded the dress neatly and shot Dodo a frosty look. “Didn’t you promise me you’d be good and stay home waiting for me?”

Dodo ducked his head, looking guilty. “I–I was just so bored being home all by myself.” He poked his index fingers together, looking completely lost.

Edith really couldn’t stay mad at him. ‘Wasn’t he back to normal pretty fast last time? Why is he still acting like this after a whole night?‘ she wondered. She rubbed her temples and said, “Let’s go to my lounge first.

As the main guest of honor today, she had her own private dressing room. She took Dodo’s hand and led him inside, then pulled a game console out of her backpack and handed it to him.

When she left the house that morning, she grabbed Joseph’s favorite game console, just in case he got too distracted and forgot to do his

You can play games here.” Edith reminded him. “But only for an hour, I’ll come back for you then.” Dodo nodded eagerly, curling up on the couch with the game console and diving right in.

As soon as she left, the lounge door was gently pushed open. Dodo didn’t even look up, his voice all soft and sweet. “Edith, this drink is so good. I want more…”

But before he could finish, he sensed something was off. He looked up and saw Kane walking toward him. His eyes went wide, and he shrank back onto the couch. “You’re a bad guy. Edith, help-”

He was so frustrated he could almost cry. ‘Why do I always have to be the bad guy?‘ he thought. ‘I’m really worried that if Marcus’s other personality comes out again, he’ll call the cops and have me thrown in jail.

Marcus‘ blue eyes were so deep, it felt like one could fall right in and never hit the bottom. Kane recognized that Marcus‘ primary personality was back. He immediately asked, “Mr. Larson, how are you feeling?”

Marcus sat up. He rolled his neck, then looked out the window. “Where am I?”

“The Harmonia Hotel. The Lovett family is hosting a party here.” Kane reported. “Your second personality was with Edith the whole time. This is also Edith’s lounge.”

Marcus‘ lips curved into a faint smile. “Let’s go check it out.”

As soon as he stood up, he felt totally out of sorts. He glanced down and saw that his suit and shirt were a wrinkled mess on him. His hair looked like a bird’s nest, sticking out in every direction.

Marcus lifted his hand and saw black dirt caked under his fingernails. He had no clue where that even came from. And he suddenly had the urge to take a shower and put on some fresh clothes.

Kane immediately caught on and lowered his voice. Maybe we should head back to the Larson Residence first?”

Marcus unbuttoned his suit jacket, shrugged it off, and tossed it to Kane. “Here, take this. Let’s get changed.”

Kane was speechless. The suit he was wearing was just one of those run–of–the–mill department store sets that cost a couple of thousand bucks at most.

‘How could someone as pampered and aboveit–all as Marcus ever wear something this cheap–looking?‘ Kane thought.

But when he glanced at the suit Marcus had tossed him, his face fell as if all hope was lost, and he

squeezed his eyes shut.

Because there was actually a dead bug stuck to the jacket, with dried green slime smeared across it, and a weird, nasty smell wafting off the whole thing.
