Reborn, She's Back for Revenge novel Chapter 44

It was half past eleven in the morning. The party hall was getting more and more crowded as guests continued to arrive.

Edith stood at the hotel entrance in a simple outfit. Even standing next to the extravagantly dressed Hallie and Karen, she wasn’t overshadowed in the slightest.

The moment Karen saw Edith, she was instantly annoyed. Not wanting to lose her composure, she turned and walked into the party hall to greet the guests. Edith and Hallie stood on either side of the hotel entrance.

A tour bus stopped at the hotel entrance, and the students from Sunspire High School arrived. Most were from ordinary families, never having visited such upscale places. They stepped off the bus, looking nervous and reserved.

And when they spotted all the guests dressed up in suits and tuxedos, they felt even more out of place.

“James, Cathy, over here!” With a beaming face, Edith walked over to greet her classmates. When everyone saw that even Edith, the guest of honor, was just wearing a shirt and jeans, they all let out a collective sigh of relief.

“Edith, your family is seriously loaded.” Cathy whispered. “My dad once came here with his boss, and just one meal cost over 9 thousand dollars.

James cleared his throat and said, “With so many of us coming here to eat for free, we all chipped in to get you a gift.”

He handed a heavy gift box to Edith. “This is a personalized plaque for your study, to wish you success in getting into your dream college. The back has signatures from all our classmates. We hope you’ll love this special keepsake.”

The students crowded around Edith, everyone talking at once and filling the air with excitement. She took a look at the gift inside the box. On the back were more than forty signatures, each name written out with care, stroke by stroke.

She’d only been in this class for a week, and could barely remember the names of more than ten people. Yet these classmates had given her such a precious gift.

She invited them just to see Hallie’s embarrassment. Edith entered the party hall, chatting and laughing with her classmates.

The other students also spotted Hallie, who looked every bit like a princess. They felt that if they got any closer, they’d just end up looking like background characters, so they only waved at Hallie from afar before following Edith into the party hall.

Hallie’s glare was so icy, it felt like it could cut right through you. There were nearly fifty students in the class, but only a few girls, including Noreen, stood by her side. The other students were all crowding around Edith.

‘I’ve been with these classmates for three years. Does all that really mean less than just a single week with Edith?‘ Hallie thought bitterly.

“A bunch of country bumpkins who’ve never seen the world,” Noreen sneered. “Showing up to a party without even wearing a dress. Unbelievable. I mean, whatever for the rest, but Edith is the Lovett family’s eldest daughter. Isn’t she worried about disgracing the Lovett family?”

“Noreen, keep your voice down,” Hallie said softly. “Do you know about the Larson family?” Noreen definitely knew about them.

Larry from the elite class was from the Larson family. The Larson family wasn’t originally from Sunspire. They were a branch of Bonrea, but they still stood above every other powerful family in Sunspire.

“Mrs. Larson really likes Edith.” Hallie whispered. “With the Larson family backing her, Edith doesn’t listen to my mom at all.

“She purposely didn’t wear a dress to the party, making it look like my mom’s been mistreating her. Now a bunch of people are saying my mom’s a terrible stepmother.” Her eyes turned red as she spoke.

Noreen had indeed caught wind of some rumors swirling around the party hall. She glanced around and shook her head. “I’ve been here for ages and haven’t seen Stella say a single word to Edith. You must be imagining things.”

Hallie’s

eyes grew icy. She wasn’t imagining things. If it weren’t for Stella, this party wouldn’t even be happening. She had to take Edith down; otherwise, Edith would definitely end up as the Larson family’s young madam.

“Wearing jeans to an event like this? She’s obviously trying to make your mom look bad,” Noreen sneered, idly swirling her wine glass. I need to come up with something that’ll force her to put on a dress.”

A group of students walked into the party hall, drawing quite a bit of attention. A few ladies gathered together, chatting.

“Edith isn’t wearing a dress. I suppose she’s just trying to help her classmates feel more at ease. She really is a kind soul.” One of them

remarked.

“Melinda was also such a caring and gentle woman. It’s a pity she tragically died young, in her thirties,” another added.

“At least Melinda left five children behind. Otherwise, everything she worked so hard to build would have just ended up in someone else’s hands.A third woman chimed in.

Stella stood among the group of ladies, her eyes drifting nonchalantly in Edith’s direction. Once again, she found herself thinking inwardly, Edith really did have such a natural girl.

‘If Melinda hadn’t passed away, and if Edith had grown up as the cherished daughter of the Lovett family, I might have truly wanted Edith to marry into the Larson family.‘

But unfortunately, Edith had spent six years out in the small town. Six years of hardship could force any girl to grow up fast. To hold her ground in the Lovett family, even the most innocent girl would eventually learn how to calculate.

The Larson family was straightforward and didn’t need a family that was too calculating. Even so, Stella still couldn’t help but pay attention to Edith.

Despite her simple clothes, Edith had an innate June and nobility that nothing could hide.

‘What a shame,‘ Stella thought to herself. Just as she was about to look away, Stella caught sight of a man in a white shirt stepping out from the corner.

Kane was always dressed in a black suit, so seeing him in a white shirt, Stella almost didn’t recognize him at first glance. She blinked in surprise.

Kane was Marcus’s personal assistant and bodyguard. Wherever Marcus went, Kane was always right there with him. ‘But Marcus never mentioned anything about coming to the Lovett family’s party,‘ Stella thought, puzzled.

As she was pondering this, she saw Kane walking straight toward Edith. Stella watched as Kane bowed at a ninety–degree angle, his head lowered in deep respect, and said something quietly to Edith.

Stella had only ever seen Kane show this kind of respect to Marcus and Dwight.

Then, she saw Edith arch her brow and ask him a few questions, to which Kane responded respectfully. After that, Edith stood up and followed Kane to another corner of the room.

The rest area was divided by tall green plants, creating secluded private spaces. However, the plants weren’t solid walls, and there were small gaps between the leaves, allowing Stella to see the people sitting there.

Even just seeing his chin, she instantly recognized him. It was Marcus, the Larson family’s most revered son. ‘But seriously, how on earth does Marcus know Edith?‘ Stella thought, completely stunned. She was totally thrown for a loop.

It wasn’t a surprise to her that Edith had managed to get Larry to offer her tutoring. And it wasn’t impossible that Edith had somehow found a way to meet Marcus.

But Kane invited her over with that much respect. That really caught Stella off guard. ‘There’s no way Marcus and Edith are just casual acquaintances, Stella thought, totally floored.
