Chapter 74
Joseph sent the message, but no response. He kept staring at his phone while doing his homework, but half an hour went by and itill, dorping. al bodo, who was sitting right next to him,

He wanted to talk to Zachary about what to do, but Edith had said not to tell anyone about bodo’s existence. This is a secret between me and Edich–no third person can get involved”

Joseph snorted. “Would you stop calling me big bro?”
Dodo blinked at him. “Then what should I call you? Little bro?”
“Quit acting, will you?” Joseph glared at him. “You’re an adult, you know. Don’t you feel bad tricking a kid?”
Joseph’s tone was a bit harsh. Dodo shrank back, and tears instantly welled up in his dark eyes. “You don’t like me?” Dodo choked out, his voice trembling. “Iknew it.
“No one in this world would ever like me, Only Didi does. She’s the only one who cares about me. I’m going to find her.” As he spoke, he burst into tears fat drops rolling down his cheeks.
Joseph’s head was pounding. “Can’t he care about his image a little? Crying in front of a kid–seriously?”
Dodo ignored everything else, bawling as he tried to run off to find Edith.
Joseph hurriedly grabbed him. “Okay, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have snapped at you. Come on. Sit down and let’s do our homework together, alright? if we never finish, Edith will stay mad at us forever. Be good, okay?”
Sure enough, Dodo obediently sat back down. Joseph let out a sigh of relief. God knows, I’ve never had to comfort anyone before this is literally the first time in my life!”
When Edith pushed the door open, she found the two of them surprisingly sitting at the desk, almost done with their homework. She glanced over and saw that every answer was correct.
She smiled gently. “Joseph, you did great today. And Dodo, you did great too. It’s getting late now, so you two should get some rest.”
Dodo dashed over. “I’ve been wanting to sleep for so long. I want to sleep in your room.”
Edith tried her best to keep a loving smile, “Dodo, you’re a boy, you know. Boys should sleep with boys.”
“But didn’t we sleep together last time?”
Edith didn’t know how to reply, nor did she dare look at Joseph’s lace. Joseph was nine years old, but he wasn’t some little brat who didn’t know anything anymore.
Edith put on a stern look and said, “What nonsense are you spouting? Last time, you slept on the bed and I slept on the floor. Tonight, you’re staying this room. Don’t follow me.
Dodo still wanted to keep pestering her. After all, every time he pestered Edith, she would always pe
Just then, a hand reached out it was Joseph. He grabbed Dado’s sleeve and pulled the tall guy down to his level, whispering, “You can sleep with me. Before bed, I’ll teach you how to play game!”
Dodo beamed, “Yeah, let’s do it!”

The night grew darker, and the whole Love Manor was soon swallowed up by darkness. “Didi!” Dodo suddenly cried out. He shot startled and wide eyed.
Joseph rubbed his eyes groply

“it’s so dark. I’m scared of the dark” Dodo whimpered, rubbing his eyes as he climbed out of bed. “I want Didi. Where is she?”
Joseph was wide awake now. “This damn man Trying to sneak into Edith’s bed in the middle of the night, huh?” He grabbed Dodo’s arm. “Did you forget what Edith told you? You’re not allowed to leave this room.”
“I’m scared. I want to be with Didi.” Dodo sobbed. In the darkness, tears streamed down his face, He forcefully shook off Joseph’s hand and marched straight toward the door.
Joseph was flung to the floor by the sudden movement, but he didn’t even have time to care. He scrambled up and rushed after Dodo
The third floor hallway was only dimly lit by a fow yellow nightlights, making everything look gloomy and dark. Dodo glanced around, but he couldn’t remember which room was Edith’s.
So he just picked a door and knocked hard. “Didi, open up. It’s me, Dodo. I want to sleep with you?”
“Who the hell is making all that noise and waking me up?” Zachary’s irritated voice thundered from inside the room. “Joseph, if you make another sound, just you wait till tomorrow–you’re dead meat”
He’d only just finished studying, finally managed to close his eyes and get some sleep, and now he was woken up by this mess. I can’t win against that crazy Edith, but surely I can handle this little punk Joseph”

Dodo still wasn’t giving up. He was desperately pling the doorknob, trying to get in. Zachary was about to blow a fuse. He marched barefoot and flung the door open, “Joseph, are you freaking crazy or what?”
Zachary started, but then he froze on the spot. “Who the hell are you? How did you even get into our house? And what are you doing outside the middle of the right?” Zachary demanded, his face full of disbeliet
He figured bodo must be some guest, so he was less grumpy,
Joseph had no idea how to explain. He could hear some noises coming from downstairs and freaked out that someone might spot Dodo, so he hurriedly dragged Dodo into Zachary’s room with him.
Dodo started whining about wanting to leave, but Joseph threatened him, “Now there’s a third person who knows you’re here, all because you couldn’t,

stay put in bed. If Edith finds out you exposed yoursell, do you think she won’t just kick you out?”
Dodo’s eyes went wide. He didn’t even dare to imagine the consequences if that happened. But he couldn’t help but believe it. Every ni Edith would always say she was going to send him back.
Joseph pulled Zachary over to the side and filled him in on everything that had happened. “So that’s basically the whole story. But I think he’s just playing dumb and pretending to be Edith’s admirer. What do you think?”
Zachary was fourteen–he wasn’t some clueless little beat anymore. In his class, tons of teens were dating, Stuff like holding hands or sneaking a kiss was no big deal at all.
But when it came to Edith, he thought it was a big deal. This damn guy wants to sleep in the same bed as Edith? Just watch how I’m gonna make him pay for this!
Edith, in the next room, was clueless about all the chaos going on. She was a light sleeper, so every night she’d put on her headphones and listen to the radio to help herself drift off,
It blocked out all the noise and, as a bonus, she could learn something.
