The Lovett family was a big name among the influential families in Sumpire.
Lovett Group made several million a year. The whole company was valued at well over thy million. But it didn’t mean the Lovett family could that kind of cash whenever they wanted.
When Edith got into Sunspire High School, Levelt Group donated a whole building. And now, with Hale’s situation, to keep her spot at the school, Lovett Group anonymously donated another 2 million.
Vincent didn’t blink an eye when it came to spending money on his own kids. But he didn’t feel any obligation to shell out money to the Crawfords.
“I can’t come up with that kind of cash,” Vincent said coldly. “Hallie’s had some trouble lately, and money’s fight everywhere can give you 10 thousand at most. The rest, your Crawford family will have to figure out yourselves
Before he could finish, Hanidan exploded.
“Vincent, you heartless bastard! You married someone from our Crawford family, so you’re responsible for us for life. Back when you
she was still so young. How could she possibly have had the time or energy to raise a child!
“It was our Crawford family who stepped up, spending our money and effort to raise Hallie for you. You just picked up a ready–made daughter and took
her home, and now you want to kick our Crawford family to the curb?
“And another thing–our Henry got into trouble at your Lovett family’s place. It’s your family that got him into this mess. Your Lovett family has to cough up that 1.6 million, or I will just hang myself right at your front door!”
Harridan started bawling and making a huge scene. She was just a bumpkin to begin with. It wasn’t until Karen married into the Lovett family that the
whole family moved to Sunspire.
a factory. She’d gone from being just an old bumpkin to the
For the past six years, the Crawfords had depended on the Lovetts, who helped them set up a f Crawford matriarch–some people even called her Madam Crawford.
She always tried to act the part, terrified of embarrassing the Crawford family. But now, with her eldest grandson about to go to jail, she couldn’t care less about her dignity
Harridan really didn’t care about saving face anymore, bawling her eyes out right there in the living room.
Upstairs on the third floor, Edith watched, her face twisted in cold mockery. She had never seen Harridan lose her composure like this before. Even when the Crawford family’s factory was shut down, she hadn’t fallen apart like this.
It was clear that Henry really was the apple of her eye. And if that was the case, all the more reason Edith wasn’t going to let her have her way. Edith sat down her worksheet, opened her door, and started walking downstakes.
System: [New mission: An outstanding heiress should be a dutiful daughter at home. Help your father handle the trouble.
A faint smile tugged at her lips. System really knew her. It always issued missions at just the right time, practically handing her rewards on a silver platter. Edith made her way down the stairs, calm and unhurried
Downstairs, Karen heard someone coming and looked up. She caught the mocking smile curling on Edith’s lips, and that look was like gasoline on a fire, instantly setting Karen off.
She wanted nothing more than to slap that smirk right off Edith’s face, but with Vincent there, she didn’t dare. She couldn’t let Vincent think she was some vicious stepmother.
Karen’s eyes flickered. She crouched down and helped Harridan up, letting out a sigh. “If only the Reed family would agree to the marriage, we wouldn’t have to spend 1.6 million. What a shame.”
As soon as she said that, Harridan remembered what she heard at the hospital that day. The Reed family had already agreed, but it was all because Edith sowed discord between them that they changed their minds.

Chapter 76
“you little bitch, it’s all your fault?” Harridan shouted, “it weren’t for you, Henry wouldn’t be going to jail. You need the marcare
Crawfords and the Reed family, You have to pay the price.”
Edith let out a soft laugh. “So you want me to pay that 1.6 million, is that it??
Hamidan had been bawding and making a scene for ages, but Vincent still wouldn’t give in. She started to think maybe the Lovett famly really couldn‘ cough up that much cash all at once.
If even Vincent, the head of the Levelis, couldn’t come up with the money, then there was no way that Edith could. Still, the had to milk something out of them.
“You’re just a kid. How could you possibly have 1.6 million? Give me 700 thousand,” Harridan said, acting like she was being parerout. “As long as you. can hand over the money, we’ll just let the whole thing with engagement slide,”
As for the remaining money, she figured she could pressure Vincent for it.
The factory had been doing pretty well lately, and there were people interested in buying in, She could sell off a ten percent stake and probably get a little over 350 thousand for it. With that, she could scrape together the full 1.6 million.
A mocking short sounded right in Harridan’s ear. She spun around and glared fiercely at Edith, “What’s so funny?”
“I’m laughing because for someone your age, you’re still ridiculously naive, almost stupid, really!” Edith’s smile suddenly turned icy. “You almost tried to drag me into your mess. Why on earth should I pay to bail out Henry?
“You know exactly how many girls he’s ruined. Don’t pretend the Crawfords are clueless. Someone like him deserves to rot in jail for the rest of his life!”
“You” Harridan was so mad she nearly blew a gasket. She lost it completely and lunged at Edith, her hand swinging down in a vicious slap.
It was like a movie playing in slow motion, and in that instant, Edith was dragged back to memories from her previous life. She’d been set up by Karen to marry Henry
For three years, she lived in the Crawford residence, suffering Henry’s violence and Harridan’s endless abuse. The rest of the Crawfords would trample on her whenever they got the chance. In the end, she fell into a deep depression.
Later, just to get a divorce, she handed over all her shares in Lovett Group to Henry, no conditions, no hesitation. She thought she’d given up everything and the Crawfords would finally let her go.
But on the day of the divorce, Harridan had come at her just like this, hand raised, slapping her hard across the face again and again, all while hurling

but there was no one.
“There was a time when I wished someone would come to my rescue, Edith thought. “But now, I was my own savior.
Edith’s gaze turned icy. She grabbed Harridan’s raised elbow and, without hesitation, bent it back with a vicious snap
Hamidan’s elbow made a sharp, nasty sound. She howled in pain and crumpled to the floor.
Vincent and Karen were stunned speechless, just standing there in shock, unable to react for a long moment
Edith crouched down and clamped down on Harridan’s hand once more, her grip unyielding
Harridan was beside herself with rage and humiliation. “You bitch, how dare your treat me like this!”
“I really don’t like being called a bitch,” Edith said coldly, a malicious smile curling on her lips. Without hesitation, she twisted Harridan’s wrist again, even harder this time.

Chapter 76
Another agonized scream echoed through the room. Harridan swung her other hand straight at Edith’s face, aiming for a slap
“I’ve still got over two months before I turn eighteen, which means I’m technically still a minor,” Edith said with a cold smirk. “Whichever hand you use t hit me, I’ll cut it right off Minors don’t go to prison, after all.”
She grabbed the fruit knife from the coffee table.
[Ding Warning, Warning System was screaming in her head, frantically trying to hold her back
