Edith was exuding a dangerous vibe.
Vincent stared at her in disbelief. He couldn’t believe that the girl in front of him was his well–behaved daughter
“Edith, stop?” Karen’s heart skipped a beat in shock. “Even if she’s not your real grandmother, she’s still an elder. Don’t you have any respect for your
elders at all?”
Edith smirked. “Is just standing there and letting her slap me supposed to be respect for my elders?” She tossed the fruit knife onto the coffee table and got up lazily. “Besides, it’s not like I did anything.”
Harridan roared, “You broke my hand, and you still have the nerve to say you didn’t do anything? Karen, call the police. Let them teach this little wretch who doesn’t know her place a lesson.” She jabbed her finger at Edith and berated her.
Edith shrugged. “You can still point at people. Does that look broken to you?”
Harridan stared at her hand in disbelief. She could’ve sworn it was broken just now. She even heard the bone snap. But now, it didn’t hurt at all.
It dawned on her that Edith had first dislocated her hand and then roughly popped it back into place. That whole back–and–forth had nearly cost her half her life.
There was no way Harridan was going to swallow this humiliation. She scrambled up from the floor, ready to start yelling again. Just then, her phone started buzzing.
Harridan decided to pause her battle. She sat down on the sofa and answered the call. Whatever was said on the other end made her spring up from the sofa. “The factory got reported for tax evasion and has been shut down by the government?”
When Edith heard that, a sly smile tugged at her lips.
Several days ago, Hallie tried to frame her for stealing the piano. To clear her name, Edith picked up some basic hacking skills. Not only did she track down the piano, but she also took the opportunity to hack into the Crawford factory’s internal network.
In her previous life, the Crawford factory wasn’t shut down for tax evasion until six or seven years later. There was no way she’d let the Crawfords enjoy another six or seven years of easy living. So, she reported the factory without a second thought.
Once the factory was sealed off, the Crawford family would finally collapse for good. As for her, she’d never walk the same path as before. This time, her life would be completely different. Edith couldn’t help but feel a surge of delight.
Harridan looked as if her soul had left her body, wandering around in a daze. She didn’t have the energy to argue with Edith anymore. Instead, she turned and clung to Vincent’s arm.
Just moments ago she’d been throwing a tantrum, but now she was pleading, “Vincent, you have to help us. The Crawford factory got a foothold in Sunspire. We can’t let it shut down. If the Crawford family falls, what will happen to us?”
Karen was just as anxious. “There’s no way my brother would ever do something like tax evasion. There must be some mistake. Vincent, you have to help.
us.”
Vincent’s face darkened. The Crawford factory was something he had helped get off the ground himself.
He’d suggested hiring college graduates to handle the operations, but the Crawfords insisted on running it as a family business. No wonder there were problems.
But the factory only pulled in 400 or 450 thousand a year, so the amount of tax evasion probably wasn’t that high. Maybe if he pulled some strings, things could be handled quietly. Vincent was weighing his options.
Edith spoke up calmly, “The Crawford family’s heir is being held in detention for attempted assault, and now the factory’s been shut down for tax
evasion.

Chapter 77
“If Lovett Group gets involved, won’t people start thinking we’re in cahoots with the Crawfords? What if they decide to start digging into our own backs
Her words made Vincent instantly alert. He had nothing to hide when it came to Lovett Group’s books, but he couldn’t be sure that no one tried to pull something shady behind the scenes.
There had been too many headaches lately. The Lovett family really couldn’t take any more authorities will clear the factory’s name,” Vincent said wearily. “Someone, take her home.”
setbacks. “If the Crawfords are innocent, I’m sure the
Harridan was practically jumping with rage. She could feel Vincent was just about to step in and help, but the moment Edith spoke up, Vincent immediately backed off.
“You little brat, you must have a death wish!” Harridan’s face turned livid with rage. “If anything happens to the Crawford factory this time, the first person I’ll come after is you.”
The ruckus downstairs had already woken everyone up on the third floor. Zachary and Joseph were about to lose it. One grabbed Dodo’s arm, while the other stood firmly in front of the door, blocking any escape.
“You can’t go downstairs!” Joseph said, exasperated. “Edith told us no one can find out you’re here, or she’s in big trouble.”
Dodo glared stubbornly. “But they’re bullying Edith. I have to go down and protect her!”
“I said I’ll go down!” Zachary said impatiently. “Are you seriously going down dressed like that?”
Dodo looked down at himself. He was wearing a girl’s nightgown, pink, with a bow on it. He didn’t feel embarrassed at all. He was only five, so he wasn’t embarrassed about it.
He stuck out his little chest and said with pride, “I’m wearing Edith’s clothes. I like how she smells.”
‘Damn it!‘ Zachary cursed inwardly. ‘What a little pervert. Zachary looked like he’d just seen a ghost. He instantly regretted it. He never should’ve let Dodo wear Edith’s pajamas yesterday.
If Edith found out he’d let Dodo mess with her pajamas, she’d definitely body–slam him again.
Zachary glanced downstairs and saw that Edith had totally crushed it. He figured there was no need for him to go down and try to get some attention.
He quickly grabbed the suit pants off the floor and tossed them at Dodo. “You’ve got one minute. Change into these.”
Dodo shook his head frantically. “Edith hasn’t seen me in the dress yet. I’ll change when she gets here.”
‘Are you for real? If Edith sees you like this, she’d never let you set foot in the house again, seriously, Zachary thought. ‘Whatever. Let’s see who ends up embarrassed when Edith shows up,‘ Zachary just tossed the suit aside.
As he did, with a clatter, a pen rolled out of the suit pocket. Dodo hurried to pick it up, carefully blowing the dust off. “This is the pen Edith gave me. I really love it.”
He remembered how much Edith loved that pen. She even cried when she gave it to him. Edith had always been so good to him. Maybe it was time he did something for her.
Dodo’s eyes darted around, then landed on a slingshot under the bed, something he was very familiar with. He quickly snatched a white decorative from the flower pot on the balcony, and then marched to the door with a fierce look.
Joseph rushed after him. “I said you can’t go downstairs!”
“I’m not going downstairs. I’m just staying right here.” Dodo pulled back the slingshot, squinting one eye. The slingshot was drawn back to a perfect full moon. As soon as the string was stretched to its limit, he let it fly.
With a crisp snap, the white stone whizzed out in a flash.
