That got Xavier’s attention. His eyes opened sharply.

Brendon leaned forward. “Word is, not long ago, Jose drank himself into a stomach perforation over Becky. Landed in the hospital. Becky stayed by his side all night. After he was discharged, he went to the western provinces. And according to his buddy Jacob, he did it because of something Becky said.”

“I’m telling you, if you don’t stay sharp, Jose might just win her over. And you’ll be the one regretting it.”

Xavier shot to his feet, face like ice. “Over my dead body. I won’t give him the chance.”

Brendon shrugged. “Just saying. I came here just to warn you.”

Xavier glanced up. “That low–flying special project–you’re on it now.”

Brendon grinned. “Thanks, bro. Let’s make some money.”

As Brendon left Glory Corp, a familiar high–pitched voice called out to him

“Brendon!”

He turned just in time to see Yvonne running toward him, face lit up with excitement.

“It really is you!”

Brendon gave a polite nod. “Here to see your brother? He’s upstairs.”

Yvonne blushed. “Not really. Doesn’t matter if I go up or not. Brendon, it’s been so long–let me treat you to lunch.

Brendon checked his watch. “Lunch? It’s two in the afternoon.”
