Chapter 118 No Tab Left Unpaid
Yvonne had her fun today. huh? I gave her a good slap too, Becky said with a grin.
“Cheers to that!” Sharon raised her bottle.
After a swig. Sharon added, “I think Yvonne likes Brendon.”
Becky arched a brow. “And what about Brendon? Does he like her?”
“Probably not. I mean, if he did, why would he pay me twenty grand to get rid of her?”
“Fair point. He probably held back because of Xavier. Had to call you in to do the dirty work.”
“Worked out fine. I’ve been wanting to teach Yvonne a lesson for a while now,”
They didn’t have much for snacks, so the two sat drinking over a small plate of peanuts.
As they opened their third boule, a knock came at the door.
Abigail answered it and froze when she saw Xavier on the other side.
“Mr. Mr. Xavier? What brings you here!”
Finished
Xavier’s eyes went right past her and landed on Becky inside, cracking open a beer with two empties already on the table.
Becky looked up, saw him, and paused mid–motion.
The beer was light; she wasn’t drunk. But after what Lilian and Yvonne had said earlier, she wasn’t about to greet him warmly.
She popped the cap and clinked bottles with Sharon. “Cheers!”
Sharon was just about to drink when she turned her head and saw Xavier stepping inside. He anything, but she still panicked–put her bottle down, grabbed her bag, and bolted.
What happened to ride–or–die!
dn’t said a word, hadn’t done
What happened to sharing joys and troubles? To splitting the last popsicle? To going out together at the end of the world?
She just left her to the wolves.
Rude!
Abigail shut the door, took one look at the tension in the room, and ducked buto the bathroom to wash clothes.
Xavier sat across from Becky in silence for a moment before asking, “Why are you drinking?”
Becky had one leg propped on another chair and shook it lazily Tm happy!
Xavier studied her carefully “If you’re upset, you can talk to me
“Are you deaf? I said I’m happy”
He didn’t get angry. Instead, he grabbed a fresh bottle of beer and popped the cap.
He glanced at the label–didn’t recognize the brand
Didn’t matter
If you say you’re happy, then I’ll drunk with you
Becky gave him a you’re nuts look

“They’re wrong. I’ll go talk to them. It’s me who’s clinging to you. I begged you to spend my money.
Suddenly, Xavier grabbed her hand..
Finished
Becky stared at the overly pale hand gripping hers. The first time she saw Xavier after entering the novel, those hands had caught her attention.
They really were beautiful.
And now one of them was holding hers.
Her alcohol tolerance wasn’t great. Her head was starting to buzz.
She shook it hard and yanked her hand back, eyes darting away.
“Anyway, speaking of money, I still owe you a bunch. Let me do the math. I’ll send it to you
She opened her calculator app.

hundred thousand total. Minus the one–point–five million for the house, I still owe you six hundred grand. You said the bags were gifts, so they’re mine–I can sell them if I want.”
“Send me your bank account. I’ll transfer it right now.”
Xavier didn’t move.
“Becky, do we really have to split hairs like this?”
“Yes. I’d rather have things clear. I don’t want your mom and Yvonne on my back again.”
“I’ll talk to them. If they show up again, just call me.”
“No need. Just give me your account number.
“Why do you take money from Brendon but not me?”
“Brendon’s James’s godfather. He was giving it to James, not me,
“Then pretend I’m giving it to James too.”
“Nope. James doesn’t accept that. Just give me your info.”
don’t have an account”
“What do you mean you don’t have one?”
“I just don’t
“Xavier are you serioudy trying to weasel out of this?”
He stayed quiet and took a sip of beer.
He frowned “What kind of beer is this? Tastes like water”
Becky stapped. It three bucks a bottle. Of course is not like the stuff you drink that costs hundreds of thousands. I didn’t ask you to drink it. If you don’t like it stop. Don’t waste my booze

“I sent you this much for now. Check it. I’ll send the rest in two parts.”
Finished
Navier didn’t respond. Who knew if he even heard her–he was chugging that three–dollar beer like it was vintage wine.
Becky muttered, “Didn’t you say it tasted awful? Then why are you drinking like it’s holy water? I’m warning you–one bottle only. Drink it and get out.”
She stared at the bottle she’d just opened, debating whether to finish it.
It’d be a waste to leave it, but she wasn’t sure her body could handle more.
