Chapter 142 The Shanks Family Explodes
Logan took one look at the photo and shouted, “It’s her! That’s the girl I acted with on set!”
Janus snapped, “You’ve met Lily before? Why didn’t you say anything earlier?“\\\

Logan blurted out, “I told Wayne! I’ve been trying to find her for ages, but she was just a temporary extra–no contact info left behind.”
Janus turned his furious glare on Wayne. “You knew and didn’t tell me?!”
Wayne scratched his nose awkwardly. “Dad, I just didn’t want to get everyone’s hopes up too soon. I was waiting till we were
sure.”
“Hmph!” Janus huffed, clearly enraged.
Wayne could only smile helplessly.
Then Lyle added, “You know something else? The girl who saved me in Dracovia–that was our little sister.”
He regretted joking about it back then. “Our sister is incredible!”
He looked around proudly. “She’s a skilled healer. Everyone calls her Ms. Quinn. Talonox kidnapped her because she could treat his migraines.”
“And she’s quick–witted. Even in that dangerous situation, she found a way to deal with Talonox–nearly bled him dry. Almost ⚫ killed him.”
“Oh, and she also took down a six–foot–tall brute. Because of that, we captured one of Talonox’s top men. I even got a commendation for it.”
Lyle looked up only to be met with a roomful of disgusted stares.
Janus fumed, “Lily practically handed Talonox to you on a silver platter, and you let him escape!”
Wayne chimed in, “Ail her effort, wasted!”
“Shameful!” he added bitterly.
Logan sighed, “She’s probably furious with us right now.”
They all felt a twinge of guilt. Even the commendation felt undeserved now.
Janus turned his eyes back to Becky’s file. But the more he read, the darker his expression grew.
His daughter had lived a hard, painful life.
Evelyn had severe depression, was emotionally unstable, and couldn’t properly care for Becky. She’d been undernourished, small for her age. The records even mentioned that Evelyn had physically abused her.
Such a tiny child, enduring so much…
Janus wiped at his eyes
If Evelyn weren’t already dead, he’d have dragged her out for a good beating
After Evelyn’s death, Becky was sent to the countryside to live with her grandmother, Jade. Life there had been hard–Jade had spent all her money trying to treat Evelyn’s illness.
She was a skilled healer, but she couldn’t cure her own daughter’s broken mind.
When Jade passed, Becky ended up with the Bolton family. Henry and Lilian had been cold to her. Their daughter, Yvonne. bullied Becky constantly
Only their son, Xavier, had shown her some warmth.

But as Janus kept reading, even that perception crumbled.
With a loud slam, he smacked the table, rattling the entire room.
Finished
“That Xavier! What kind of bastard is he?! Lily liked him–he should’ve felt honored! Who the hell does he think he is. rejecting our Lily! Son of a bitch!”
Another loud “whack echoed through the room as Janus pounded the table again.
“He even divorced her?! I’ll kill him!”
He conveniently ignored the part where Becky had drugged Xavier, or that she’d been the one to file for divorce.
Didn’t matter. Divorcing his daughter was already unforgivable.
Smack after smack, Janus slammed his palm on the table again.
“Divorced her and didn’t even give her a cent! My daughter had to sell handbags just to buy a tiny little apartment! On the
seventh floor, no less!”
-I’m gonna lose it! That bastard’s worse than a loan shark!”
Janus was on his feet now, shaking with rage.
“And worst of all–he got Lily pregnant!”
In the next second, Janus’s emotions flipped entirely. Tears welled in his eyes.
“My poor girl. She had to go through pregnancy alone. Working by herself, no one to take care of her. Just imagining her with that big belly, struggling all by herself, breaks my heart…
“We weren’t there for her when she needed us most. We let her suffer
The four Shanks sons and Oriel all looked grim.
Wayne and Oriel had read Becky’s records already. The others hadn’t. But hearing their father’s words, their fingers clenched. into tight fists.
Lyle, who had once admired Xavier, now felt utter disdain. Xavier’s image crumbled in his mind.
If he’d known back in Cloudtopia, he would’ve punched the guy on the spot.
At Dracovia Glory Corp, Xavier was going through a stack of documents when he suddenly sneezed several times in a row.
Back at the Shanks estate, Janus kept reading–and cursing–loud enough for the whole house to hear.
Upstairs. Julia stirred and asked a nearby maid, “What’s going on downstairs?”
The maid hesitated. “It sounds like the master is angry again.”
Julia sighed. “That old man’s temper gets worse with age. Can’t he talk like a normal person for once?”
