Chapter 156 Unwanted Attachments
“Xavier’s not at the office–he went on a business trip,” Lilian said.
“A business trip? He’s in no condition to travel!” Yulia exclaimed.
Lilian sighed. “I can’t control what Xavier does either.”
“Where did he go?”
“Circovia.”
With that, Lilian got into her car and left.
Yulia didn’t waste a second. She immediately booked the next flight to Circovia.
Finished
After securing the ticket, she returned home to pack. The house was empty except for the housekeeper. Even if Grace and the others had been around, they wouldn’t have cared where she was going–so there was no need to report anything to them.
Just as she pulled her suitcase outside, she froze.
Wendle was standing at the gate.
She hadn’t seen him since the night of their class reunion and had been avoiding him ever since.
Wendle walked up and glanced at the suitcase in her hand.
“Where are you going?”
Yulia’s eyes flickered. “Just going on a trip.”
“Yeah? Where to? I’ll go with you.”
“No!”
Realizing her tone had been too sharp, she quickly softened it. “I mean, you’re busy. There’s no need to come with me. I’ll be fine on my own.”
Wendle was the second son of the powerful Zach family–definitely not someone she could afford to offend.
She needed his help at times and was addicted to the attention he gave her, but she didn’t actually want to be with him.
She liked Xavier. That much was crystal clear. What she had with Wendle was nothing more than momentary indulgence.
Wendle stepped in closer and stood right in front of her.
Yulia clutched the handle of her suitcase tightly, keeping her gaze down.
“I’m not busy. I’ll come with you. Wherever you want to go, I’ll go,” he said.
“There’s no need,” she replied quickly.
“Yulia, you’re avoiding me.”
No kidding, she thought. And you had to ask out loud?
She didn’t respond
Wendle gave a short laugh. “Why?”
Since he’d brought it up. Yulia decided she might as well be honest.
“We got carried away that night. Wendle, I know you’ve been good to me, and I do appreciate it—but you know how I feel. I can’t be with you”
She lifted her eyes to meet his. “If you’re able to forget what happened between us and still help me, we can stay friends. But

anything more… that’s not happening.”
Wendle almost laughed in disbelief.
He lit a cigarette and took a long drag.
Finished
Through the smoke, he looked at her. “We’ve already slept together. Twice. And you think we can still be just friends‘?”
“As long as you can forget it, I have no problem with that.”
She needed his help.
The Moore family had money, sure, but not at the level of the real elite–not like the Zach family.
Having someone like Wendle at her back meant resources, status, and a sense of security in high society.
Wendle took another hard drag from his cigarette.
At first, it had been her cool, aloof demeanor that had drawn him in—and the fact that she was Xavier’s woman only made her more intriguing.
So he pursued her, worked his way in–and she’d taken the bait.
But after sleeping with him, she tried to wipe the slate clean, acting like nothing had happened, even avoiding him.
He wasn’t the type to cling or beg. He’d only sought her out once after that and, seeing she was avoiding him, left her alone.
Today, he’d passed by on a whim and decided to swing by.
But seeing her treat him like he was some clingy nuisance–that annoyed him.
Now she wanted to act like nothing ever happened?
Maybe he’d been too accommodating before–made her think he was helplessly in love, easy to control, utterly smitten.
Yulia had no idea what Wendle was thinking. He hadn’t said much, but there was something in his gaze that felt… off.
“If you don’t want to help me, then forget I said anything,” she said.
Wendle finally spoke. “If Xavier finds out you slept with me, do you think he’ll still want you?”
Yulia froze. “He won’t find out–unless you tell him.”
“You really think Xavier is that blind?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I mean, maybe he already knows.”
Yulia’s expression changed. “No way. That’s impossible.”
Wendle gave her a mocking smile.
Now he saw her clearly–just another woman who thought she was smarter than she was.
“Whether he knows or not, it’s obvious he’s not interested in you. Why throw yourself at him just to be humiliated?”
Yulia snapped, “That’s my business. If you don’t want to help, fine–keep your sarcasm to yourself.”
With that, she dragged her suitcase past him and headed toward the gate.
She walked slowly on purpose.
