Chapter 194 Signals, Soreness, and Suspicion

Becky could feel the housekeepers sneaking glances at her–subtle, but unmistakable. She wanted to bury herself alive.
Xavier had stayed over. They both got up late. What they did last night? Obvious.
And who knew how soundproof the house was? Xavier had been enthusiastic–if Abigail and the others had heard anything…
She kept her head down, silently eating. A smooth white egg suddenly appeared in front of her.
“Becky, have an egg.”
Without saying a word, she ate it in a few bites, kissed James on the cheek, grabbed her bag, and headed out.
Randall had the car ready at the gate.
But since Xavier was back, she figured he’d need it and started walking instead.
Randall called after her, “Ms. Becky, why aren’t you getting in?”
“I’ll grab a cab.”
Before Randall could say more, she was already gone.
Xavier had barely touched breakfast. He walked over, scooped James up from the floor, and pinched the same cheek Becky had kissed.
A bit too hard.
James’s skin was pale, so the mark reddened instantly. He pouted, about to cry.
Abigail: “…”
She rushed over to rescue him. “Mr. Xavier, you’re heading out? I’ll take James.”
Xavier clicked his tongue and handed him over, then finally left the house.
The estate was big. Becky had been walking a while before she even saw the front gate.
Just then, Xavier’s car pulled up in front of her.
The window rolled down, revealing that smug face of his.
“Get in.”
After last night’s… workout, and the walk this morning, her legs were killing her. She didn’t hesitate long before sliding into.
the car.
Xavier’s lips curled up in satisfaction.
From the rearview mirror, Randall watched the two in the back seat.
Ms. Becky scooted to the side. His boss shamelessly scooted closer.
One looked annoyed, the other looked absolutely thrilled.
They reminded him of how he used to coax his old lady.
Since Xavier had stayed at Ms. Becky’s place last night, it looked like their relationship had jumped forward by leaps and bounds
Xavier knew Becky was still annoyed, so he kept his hands to himself–just sat close
When they reached the clinic, he quickly hopped out to open her door.

As she stepped out, he pulled her gently aside and whispered, “Still sore?”
Becky: “”
Her face turned bright red.
Was this something he should be asking in public?
Seeing how embarrassed she was, Xavier added, “If you’re uncomfortable, take the day off.”
Becky ignored him and walked away.
He called after her, “I’ll pick you up after work!”

Becky was swamped the moment she stepped into the clinic.
She’d eaten late, so she wasn’t hungry. The lunch Xavier had sent over was given straight to Mr. John.
By 3 p.m., she was starving. It was too late for lunch, so she decided
to
grab
a
snack.
Just then, a uniformed man walked in and handed her a fancy paper bag.
“Ms. Becky, Mr. Xavier ordered this afternoon tea for you.”
She raised an eyebrow and accepted it.
`In the break area, she opened the bag: one slice of blueberry cake and
a
fruit tea.
He’d sent her something from this place before, but she’d handed it off to Mr. John.
She took a bite.
It was so good she nearly squinted from pleasure.
After finishing her snack, she went back to work.
As soon as the workday ended, Xavier walked in.
He’d changed into a fresh suit.
When their eyes met, Becky felt strangely self–conscious.
“All set?” he asked.
“Yeah.”
She picked up her bag.
He reached for her hand. Becky paused, glancing down at their fingers intertwined.
It felt… odd. But she couldn’t describe it.
Mr. John saw them leave hand in hand and stroked his beard with a knowing smile.
Once in the car, Becky noticed a black bag next to her filled with who–knew–what.
“What’s this?”
Xavier gave her a meaningful look.
“Good stuff”
*What kind of good stuff?”

She reached for it, but Xavier snatched it back.
“Be good. I’ll show you at home.”
Becky: “”
That “be good” made her heart race.
She was exhausted.
The temperature in the car was perfect. Quiet. Peaceful.
She closed her eyes, dozing off.
But not long after, a phone rang.
She opened her eyes and looked at Xavier.
He ended the call with a soft smile. “Go back to sleep.”
She sat up. “I’m not sleepy. Take the call.”
م
A moment later, his phone rang again.
“I’m not sleeping. Just answer it.”
Xavier pressed his lips together and answered the call.
“Hi, Mom.”
Lilian: “Xavier, I heard you’re back from your trip. I had the kitchen make some of your favorite dishes–come home for dinner tonight.”
“I’ve got plans. I won’t be coming.”
“What kind of plans? If it’s not important, push it. You haven’t had dinner with us in ages.”
