Chapter 195 The Most Important Thing
“It’s something important,” Xavier told his mother over the phone.
Becky rolled her eyes.
This man could lie without blinking.
Lilian hung up, clearly disappointed.
Xavier lowered the phone and turned to Becky. “What was that eye–roll for?”
“Don’t play dumb. I saw that.”
She swore he had a third eye or something.
“Why lie to her, Xavier? You looked plenty free to me.”
“I’m not. I’m dealing with something very important.”
“What?”
“You.”
He looked at her with burning intensity.
Thud.
Like a pebble dropped in a still lake–her heart rippled with surprise.
Becky froze. Was she really that important to him?
As if reading her mind, Xavier leaned closer, taking her hand.
“You’re more important to me than you think.”
Becky stared at him, dumbfounded.
Xavier smiled and pulled her into his arms.
He went home with Becky that night. The moment they walked in, James squealed and zipped across the floor to
Becky picked him up with a grin. “Did you miss Mommy?”
James clapped his hands and babbled excitedly.
Becky laughed. “Oh, you missed Mommy, huh? Mommy missed you too.”
Xavier stood leaning against the doorway, watching them with soft eyes.
His phone rang. He stepped inside and headed upstairs.
Becky noticed the black bag in his hand.

them.
Once he was out of sight, she realized how bold he was–wandering upstairs like he owned the place. No asking, no hesitation.
The housekeeper hadn’t known Xavier would be staying for dinner and rushed to add a couple of dishes.
While they waited, Becky played with James in the living room.
Upstairs, Xavier answered the call while walking into the bedroom. He set the black bag down on the nightstand and sat on
the bed.
Kevin was calling about a problem.
Chapter 195 The Most Important Thing
Back downstairs, dinner was ready but Xavier hadn’t come down yet.
Abigail said, “Ms. Becky, I’ll watch James. Why don’t you go call Mr. Xavier?”
Finished
Becky pouted. “He’s the guest here. What, do I need to invite him three times like royalty? Let him be. He eats or doesn’t—
whatever.”
Abigail had seen Becky sneak glances at the staircase more than once. She knew Becky was just being stubborn.
“Still, maybe you should go call him?”
Becky hesitated, mentally prepping herself to go call him. Just as she gave in and stood, Xavier appeared at the stairs- smiling like a devil.
“We’re all family here. No need for three formal invites.”
Abigail covered her mouth to stifle a laugh.
Becky snorted. “Who’s family with you?”
avier
Xavier took big strides and was in front of her in a blink.
“Want me to explain?”
Becky: “…”
She had a feeling nothing decent was going to come out of his mouth. She stood and walked toward the dining room.
“Cut it out. Time to eat!”
Xavier grinned.
Dinner was four dishes and a soup.
Becky was starving and ate heartily.
She was easy to feed. She cooked well but never cared much about eating fancy. Probably because she’d been hungry too many times as a kid.
Xavier took a few bites and started missing her cooking already.
Hers tasted way better than what the housekeeper made.
Becky noticed he wasn’t eating much. “You on a diet or something?”
A grown man eating like a bird.
Xavier gave her a sly smile.
“What, afraid I’ll be too tired?”
Becky: “…”
“Relax. I’ve got endless energy.”
He leaned closer, lowered his voice, “Didn’t you learn that last night?”
His voice dipped into a husky laugh.
Becky nearly choked on her food.
“Xavier, are you even the same person anymore? Weren’t you once a proper big brother? And now you say this kind of stuff to your so–called little sister? Doesn’t your conscience hurt?”
In her memory, Xavier had always treated the original Becky like a cherished younger sister. Gentle, respectful–never crossing the line.
P
Xavier raised a brow.
“Not at all.”
Now that he knew how he felt about her, he couldn’t help himself. All he wanted was to be close to her—tease her, make her blush, see that spark in her eyes. She was vivid, real, and adorable.
Becky:“”
She gave up trying to argue.
After dinner, Abigail bathed James. Becky went upstairs and played with him for a while.
“My sweet boy, you smell so good! Mommy loves you to bits!”
James was a cheerful baby who loved to laugh. He babbled excitedly when Becky spoke to him, making her heart feel lighter
Xavier reached the nursery doorway just in time to hear that line–and promptly glared at James.
James spotted him and babbled again.
He liked both his mommy and daddy.
Becky turned and saw Xavier lingering in the doorway.
“You’re still here?” she asked.
