Chapter 197 Misunderstandings, Mistrust, and Mothers
Xavier paused for a moment but said nothing.

Five minutes later, Becky stepped out of the bathroom–only to find that Xavier was gone. His clothes had vanished too.
She let out a breath of relief and turned to the black bag on the nightstand.
Walking over, she opened it.
It was filled with condoms–ten boxes at least.
Her mouth twitched. She immediately tied up the bag and stuffed it deep into a drawer.
With Xavier gone, she finally relaxed and slept soundly through the night.
The next morning, before heading out, Mary asked Sharon, “Did you ask your boss about coming to dinner?”
Sharon smacked her forehead. “Ugh! I forgot!”
Mary had expected as much.
“Ask him today. How about this Saturday at noon? Your dad and I will prepare a few dishes.”
“Alright, I’ll ask. But he’s a big shot, might not have time.”

After joining the secretary department, Sharon had been much busier than before. There were more small tasks, and Brendon kept assigning her extra work.
That morning, Brendon had made her prep everything for the daily meeting again.
When the meeting ended and Brendon was about to head back into his office, Sharon called out, “Mr. Brendon.”
He stopped and looked at her, brows slightly raised in question.
Seeing that the other three secretaries weren’t around, she spoke up. “Mr. Brendon, are you free this Saturday
Brendon raised an eyebrow. “Why? You asking me out?”
Sharon replied, “Not me–my parents. They want to invite you over for lunch this Saturday.”
Brendon: “..
”
at noon?”
He was just about to respond when he spotted the three secretaries standing at the doorway, eyes wide with shock.
Sharon saw them too.
Brendon gave her a quick glance, then said nothing and went straight into his office.
Sharon awkwardly greeted them. “You’re back.”
The three women all gave her different looks.
Nancy, one of them, said with a smirk, “Wow, Sharon, you really scored. No wonder you got transferred to the secretary department.”
Sharon knew she’d misunderstood and tried to explain. “It’s not like that-”
“Save it,” Nancy interrupted. “We all heard. Things are moving fast, huh? Already meeting the parents. But… Mr. Brendon didn’t seem too interested in going. Aren’t you moving a little fast?”
Sharon had always turned a blind eye to Nancy’s subtle digs, but this time the sarcasm was too obvious to ignore.

“I already told you, I’m not in that kind of relationship with Mr. Brendon. My parents wanted to invite him to thank him. Nancy, if you like Mr. Brendon, go ahead and pursue him–but stop making trouble for me, okay?”
“Who said I like him-? Don’t talk nonsense!”
“I’m not talking nonsense!”
“Alright, that’s enough.”
This time, it was Liao Qin–Brendon’s chief secretary–who cut in.
“This is a workplace. Keep things professional. Get back to work.”
Sharon pressed her lips together and turned back to her tasks.
Nancy didn’t say anything else.
Liao Qin gave Sharon a long look before returning to her desk.
Sharon’s fingers moved on the keyboard, but her mind was still stuck on what had just happened. Was Brendon refusing her?
Maybe she’d messed up. She should’ve asked after work, not in the office. Or maybe just sent a message.
Now the other secretaries had overheard it.
Brendon probably thought it made things awkward. That’s why he didn’t respond.
After work, Sharon returned home.
Mary asked, “Did you ask?”
Sharon: “I did.”
“And?”
“He’s busy. Big boss and all. Let’s just skip the lunch. I’ll thank him verbally.”
Mary frowned, silently making note of it..
That evening, Lilian went to Westview Pavilion, expecting to find Xavier. But the housekeeper told her he hadn’t been back.
Suspicious, she headed over to Purple Pavilion–Xavier’s other place.
The door was locked. No one inside.
She figured maybe Xavier wasn’t staying here either and turned to leave–only to spot a woman approaching, pushing a
stroller.
The woman looked vaguely familiar. Lilian couldn’t quite place her.
Then she saw the child in the stroller.
That tiny face had at least a 50% resemblance to her son.
Suddenly, she remembered–the woman was Becky’s housekeeper. She’d seen her once before at Luminous Heights.
So Becky really had moved in with Xavier.
All that talk about not clinging to her son? What a lie.
Alugail had taken James out for a walk. The weather was nice, and the little one had been cooped up indoors too long

James was thrilled to be outside.
But then Abigail spotted Lilian.
Her impression of Xavier’s mother wasn’t a good one. Lilian clearly didn’t like Becky–or James.
She immediately turned the stroller around and headed back.
Lilian, watching her reaction, was even more certain.
Becky was definitely living here. Even the housekeeper looked guilty.
She didn’t follow.
She simply stood outside the villa gate and waited.
Since Becky lived here now, she’d come back eventually–with the child.
