Chapter 198 One Bite at a Time

Lilian waited for two hours. Her legs went numb from standing.

But the housekeeper and the baby never came back.

Strange. Where could that woman have taken the child? It was already so late.

By 8 p.m., the villa remained dark and empty. No sign of life.

Becky should’ve been home from work by now. And the housekeeperwhy hadn’t she returned?

Lilian finally called Xavier.

Xavier, when did you get back?

I’m in a meeting, Mom. We’ll talk later.” Click.

The night air was chilly. After standing for hours and developing a dull ache in her legs, Lilian finally gave up and left.

Becky had just finished her shower and was preparing for bed when the bedroom door creaked open.

Xavier walked in wearing a sharp suit and dragging a suitcase behind him. He shut the door with a click.

She sat up immediately, body tensing.

What are you doing here?

Xavier grinned, that familiar cocky smirk tugging at his lips, and strolled over to stand beside her bed.

I figured you missed me, so I came.”

Shameless. I didn’t miss you.

You always say one thing and mean another. But I think you did.”

Becky rolled her eyes so hard it was a miracle they didn’t get stuck.

Shameless!

Xavier chuckled. Why would I need shame around you? I don’t.”

Then, his eyes locked with hers.

I’m going to shower. Wait for me.

He picked up his suitcase and headed into the walkin closet, then disappeared into the bathroom.

The sound of running water echoed through the door.

Becky suddenly felt jittery.

She crept toward the door and quietly turned the knob.

Where are you going?

She froze.

Slowly turning around, she tried to act calm. I’m going to get some water.”

There’s water right there,Xavier said, pointing at the nightstand.

A full glass of water sat exactly where she’d left it earlier.

Damn it.

Xavier crossed his arms, leaning against the wall with a leisurely smirk.

Becky, were you trying to escape?

Of course not!

She wasn’t about to admit she’d chickened out.

Then why sneak off?

I told you. I wasn’t running.

Oh. Well, since you’re not running, let’s sleep. It’s late.”

Becky stiffly returned to the bed.

Xavier flicked off the lights, leaving only the bedside lamps glowing.

The room went still.

She could hear the quiet, measured footsteps approachingand then the mattress dipped behind her.

In the next second, she was pulled into a damp, muscular embrace.

A low, teasing voice sounded at her ear. Relax. No need to be nervous.

I’m not nervous.

He laughed softly above her head.

Alright. Since you’re not nervouscan we begin?

Sure.

Becky felt she always lost ground to him. She had no pride left. So she stubbornly lifted her chin.

Then why don’t you take the lead?Xavier suggested.

Becky:

How was she supposed to do that?

You know how?he asked.

Of course I do!

She thought back to the last couple of times. He’d always started with a kiss.

So she leaned up and pressed her lips to his, mimicking what he’d done before.

A few minutes later, she felt his body tense, his breathing deepenbut he still didn’t move.

Annoyed, she bit down on his lip.

Ah! Becky, are you part dog?!

I’m a snake,she said.

Xavier burst out laughing. Are you venomous?

Deadly

*Then I guess I’m doomed.

You came to me. I’ll poison you. I’ll poison you!

Xavier flipped her onto her back and crushed her mouth with his.

Compared to that kiss, her earlier attempt was embarrassingly tame.

When he finally let up, noses still brushing, he murmured:

Even if I die, I’ll die doing this with you.

Becky:

Her whole face turned red. Her heart pounded like crazy.

Xavier kissed her again.

It was a long night.

But at least he was gentle this time. She didn’t feel sore afterward.

The next morning, Becky opened her eyesit was already close to 11.

Xavier was nowhere to be seen.

She didn’t even know when he’d left.

After washing up, she stepped into the walkin closetand froze.

Next to her clothes, there was now a full row of men’s clothing: shirts, suits, ties

It feltweird.

She pressed her lips together, grabbed an outfit, and got dressed.

Downstairs, Abigail approached with a faintly amused look.

even his underwear.

Mr. Xavier left earlier. He told us not to wake yousaid you should sleep as long as you wanted.

Her expression said so much without saying a thing. She clearly wanted to laugh but didn’t dare.

Becky could only respond with an awkward Oh,and went to the dining room.

She had a combined breakfastlunch, then headed off to the clinic.

Mr. John couldn’t resist commenting when she finally walked in.

Ever since you patched things up with your baby’s dad, you show up later and later.
