Chapter 199 Secrets, Suspicions, and Shattered Assumptions
Becky didn’t respond to Mr. John’s teasing. She slipped into the consultation room and closed the door behind her.
There was no use continuing that kind of conversation–it would only embarrass her.
The next day, Lilian returned once again to Purple Pavilion.
Xavier’s villa was still locked and empty.
She frowned, something not adding up.
That evening, Xavier finally returned to the Bolton family home for dinner–for the first time in nearly a month.
Lilian, thrilled, had the kitchen prepare a feast.
“Xavier, eat more. You’ve lost weight lately.”
And he had–his business trips had been relentless, and he’d rushed back early. He barely slept four hours a night. The exhaustion showed.
But despite the elaborate spread, Xavier barely touched anything. Unless Becky cooked herself, he didn’t have much appetite these days.
Lilian noticed the untouched dishes and frowned slightly.
Meanwhile, Henry–who hadn’t seen his son in a while–took the opportunity to discuss work.
Xavier had sharp instincts in business. Often, his judgment was even more precise than Henry’s. He was a rare talent- someone who could stay ahead in a fiercely competitive market. In fact, Henry often relied on him.
But there was one thing lately that had been a major headache.
“Xavier, our Bolton Corp’s contract with the Shanks family in Circovia expired this year, and out of nowhere, they’ve decided not to renew.”
“In past years, it was always a given we’d continue. This time, no warning–just a flat–out refusal.”
“I’ve asked around. They’re in talks with Simone Corp from Dracovia, which offers similar services to ours.”
“We’ve never crossed the Shanks family. We’ve had a good partnership. So why would they suddenly cut ties?”
“You’re on good terms with their eldest. Could you ask him what’s going on?”
Xavier lowered his gaze. “Forget the Shanks family. That door’s closed. We offended them.”
“Offended? I don’t recall us doing anything wrong. Could it be a misunderstanding?”
Xavier glanced at Henry but said nothing.
Oh, it wasn’t a misunderstanding. They’d definitely burned that bridge–badly.
Henry lost his appetite.
“Well, are you going to tell me how? If someone on our side messed up, I’ll personally go apologize.”
I won’t help. Just let it go. That partnership’s over.”
Xavier himself had lost a joint project with Wayne–also part of the Shanks family. Fortunately, he’d secured a new partner just in time to minimize losses.
Henry’s expression darkened.
If Xavier said it was hopeless, then it was truly hopeless.

Finished
Lilian didn’t follow the business talk. What she did care about was whether Becky had moved in with her son.
After some hesitation, she asked, “Xavier, I went by Westview Pavilion. The staff said you haven’t stayed there in a long time. Where are you living now?”
“Purple Pavilion.”
“By yourself?”
Xavier looked up at her and nodded once.
“Is Becky living with you?”
He blinked, caught slightly off guard, then nodded again.
“Sort of.”
Lilian pressed her lips into a thin line, her tone turning sharp.
“I knew it.”
“She said she wouldn’t cling to you, wouldn’t spend your money–and yet, here she is. So much for her pride. She talked big, but in the end, she folded like the rest.”
Xavier said calmly, “You’ve got it wrong. She’s not living in my house. I’m living in hers.”
“…What?”
Lilian stared at him, stunned.
“You’re living in Becky’s house?”
“Mm.”
“But you said you’re at Purple Pavilion. Becky has a property there?”
“Yep.”
“You’re joking. Homes in Purple Pavilion start at thirty million. You think she could afford that?”
“She’s just a little traditional medicine doctor. Even if she’s doing well, it hasn’t been that long–how could she have made that kind of money so quickly?”
“You gave it to her, didn’t you?”
Xavier replied, “No. I tried. She wouldn’t take it.”
Lilian and Henry exchanged glances, clearly not buying it.
Henry frowned. “I get that you want to protect her, but there’s no need to lie to us. We’re not fools.”
Xavier gave a small, detached smile.
“It’s true. Her family bought it for her.”
Lilian narrowed her eyes. “Family? What family? I thought they were all gone.”
“If they hadn’t been, Jade wouldn’t have left Becky in our care.”
Henry was silent for a moment, then something clicked.
“You mean her biological father?”
Everyone in the Bolton family had always known Becky was the child of Evelyn and a married man–but no one had ever known who he was.
Xavier shook his head. “No. Becky’s not Evelyn’s daughter.”
Silence fell.
Lilian’s jaw tensed. “What are you saying?”
Xavier said flatly, “Evelyn’s baby died shortly after birth. Becky was a stolen child.”
Lilian and Henry both froze.
Lilian was the first to break the silence. “I….. I can’t believe that.”
Xavier’s voice was indifferent. “Believe what you want.”
Lilian stared at him.
After a moment, she asked, “So… this family who bought Becky the Purple Pavilion house–are they wealthy?”
Xavier: “Very.”
