Chapter 207 Chaos, Diapers, and Daddy Duty
Xavier clicked his tongue twice.
Abigail came back from a phone call, her expression tight.
“Mr. Xavier, could you take care of James today? I need to take the day off for something urgent.”
Xavier frowned slightly but nodded.
Abigail rushed off.
Xavier looked down at James, who was crawling all over the floor, and picked him up.
“Come on. Let’s go find your mom.”
A maid emerged from the kitchen, paused when she saw the empty living room.
“Where are Mr. Xavier and James?”
Upstairs maybe?”
She assumed Xavier was putting James down for a nap and didn’t think much of it.
At first, James was thrilled to be in the car. But soon he got fidgety, squirming in Xavier’s arms.
Xavier gave him a firm swat on the butt.
The little guy burst into tears, wailing with all his might.
Xavier grew irritated and snapped, “James, shut up!”
James wailed even louder.
Randall couldn’t help but say, “Sir, kids need comfort. Yelling doesn’t help–they don’t understand.”
Xavier reluctantly picked James up and softened his tone. “Come on, be good. Stop fussing.”
But James kept squirming, little fists flailing, face red with frustration.

He was furious. Dad was the worst. Why wouldn’t he let him crawl? And now his butt hurt! He was going to tell Mom that Dad
hit him!
Seeing that Xavier looked like he was about to toss James out of the car, Randall offered a suggestion.
“Sir, maybe… sing him a song?”
Xavier shot him a look.
“Do I look like someone who sings?”
Randall: “…”
“I could sing, if you want.”
“Fine by me.”
Randall started singing while driving.
Xavier lasted about ten seconds before his face darkened. Randall’s singing was pure torture.
James wasn’t impressed either. He cried even louder.
Exasperated, Xavier said, “Randall. Enough.”

“Sir… was it that bad?”
Xavier glanced at him. “What do you think?”
Randall:
He thought he was… okay, at least.
Xavier pulled out his phone and played a children’s song.
James finally stopped crying when the cheerful melody filled the car.
Xavier exhaled in relief.
As they neared the clinic, Xavier suddenly wrinkled his nose. “What’s that smell?”
Randall sniffed the air. “Sir… did James poop?”
Xavier: “…”
No wonder his lap felt warm.
“What now?”
It was the first time Randall had seen Xavier look genuinely panicked.
But he wasn’t much help either. His own kids had been raised by his wife–he just paid the bills.
“Sir, we’re almost at the clinic. Maybe ask Ms. Becky?”

Becky was in the middle of a consultation when Xavier burst in holding James.
“Becky, he pooped.”
Everyone in the room turned to look, startled.
Xavier was gripping James by the armpits, holding him like he was radioactive. James’s legs dangled in the air, kicking wildly.
Becky: “…”
Why was Xavier suddenly here with James?
She pressed her lips together and turned back to the patient.
“Go find Abigail.”
“She’s on leave.”
Becky sighed. “Wait outside.”
Xavier stepped back out.
Once Becky wrapped up the appointment, she rushed out to find Xavier still holding James the same way.
She hurried over and rescued her son.
“Seriously? It’s just a dirty diaper. He’s your son. If he pooped on you, you should be saying, ‘Wow, what a fragrant little gift.”
Xavier’s mouth twitched. “Sorry. I don’t have that kind of filter.”
Fragrant? He nearly threw up. He had half a mind to toss the kid onto the floor.
Becky gave him an exasperated look.

“Did you bring diapers?”
Xavier: “…”
He hadn’t brought anything. Just scooped James up and left.
Becky ground her teeth. “Tell me you didn’t come out with absolutely nothing.”
“…Maybe.”
She shoved James back into his arms. “Hold him.”
Xavier looked like he was facing down a battlefield.
As Becky ran out of the clinic, he shouted after her, “Where are you going?!”
She didn’t answer.
Mr. John happened to wander over, hands clasped behind his back.
“Well, well, that kid’s a looker!”
Xavier scowled. “He reeks.”
Mr. John chuckled. “Clearly, you’ve never taken care of a child.”
Xavier fell silent.
He really hadn’t done much.
Wait–he had washed James’s clothes once.

Mr. John said, “A kid isn’t just the mother’s job, you know. You’ve got to step up and do your part as a dad. Can’t be a macho man all the time. And don’t be lazy–your wife won’t like it. Oh, wait, that’s right… you’re divorced now. She’s not your wife anymore.”
“All the more reason to step up. Help with the kid. Prove yourself. Win her back.”
“Becky’s got enough on her plate. The least you can do is take care of James so she can have some peace of mind.”
