Jackson’s hand on her throat only tightened.

“Let go.”

Natalie’s eyes blazed with cold defiance.

“As long as we’re not divorced, you’re my woman. Only I get to touch you–no one else has the right.” His hand slid down to her waist, fingers roaming possessively. “Who gave you the guts to do something like this?”

His grip dug into her waist, making her wince; pain flashed across her face. “You’re hurting me! Let go!”

“Who was the man?”

Natalie ignored him, shoving at his chest, trying to push him away.

But Jackson spun her around and slammed her down on the treatment bed.

The instruments resting on it clattered loudly to the floor.

“Get off me!”

She struggled with every ounce of strength she had, but the man above her showed no intention of releasing her.

Just then, the phone pinned on the desk lit up with a voice. “Mr. Jackson, I’ve left the documents here.”

Jackson froze, stunned, eyes darting toward the phone.

Natalie went rigid as well. She had assumed Marcus must have hung up long ago, since there had been no sound from his end.

She hadn’t expected the call to still be connected.

Which meant everything that had just happened–all of it, every word–had been heard by

that man.

Jackson shoved away from her and lunged for the desk, snatching up the phone. But by the time he did, the call had already been disconnected.

He turned to Natalie in disbelief. “You were on the phone with my uncle just now? So he heard everything?”

Natalie steadied her breath, then took the phone back. “And what if he did?”

“What if he did?” Jackson’s hand went to his face; he smacked his own cheek in frustration. “You’ve humiliated me! You’ve put a giant green hat on my head–how the hell am I supposed to face him now?”

Natalie’s expression flickered. If he knew these marks had come from Marcus in the first place, wouldn’t that kill him with rage?

“If you don’t want to be embarrassed, if you’re worried about me ruining your pride, then just sign the divorce papers.”

Her tone was ice–cold, her eyes flashing with frost.

“No wonder you’re so desperate to get rid of me. You’ve already lined up someone else, haven’t you? And from the looks of it, someone close–someone who could show up at Grandpa’s birthday banquet. You even went after someone from my own circle. Impressive, Natalie.”

Jackson’s voice shot up, sharp with fury.

Natalie, afraid Atlas or one of the patients outside might overhear, quickly cut him off.

She jabbed a finger toward the door. “If you’re done, then get out.”

“I’ll get to the bottom of this. And if I catch that man, neither of you will walk away unscathed.”

With that, he strode to the door and stormed out.

The slam of the door echoed heavily in her ears. Natalie lowered her gaze to the phone in her hand, her face shadowed and grim. Why didn’t he hang up sooner?

At that same moment, in the president’s office of Anderson Corp, Marcus stood before the wide floor–to–ceiling windows, eyes deep and unreadable as he stared out at the view.

He had only called Natalie to ask about Lily.

But midway through the call, someone had snatched her phone; soon after, the sounds of a heated struggle came through the line.

If James hadn’t entered with documents and spoken up just then, Marcus suspected Jackson might have truly gone too far.
