Shattered Then Healed By His Love (by Haley Blanton) novel Chapter 137

Chapter 137 Guess I’m Just A Friend

Natalie had heard of Anderson Corp many times, but this was her first time coming here. The skyscraper soared so high that she had to tilt her head back just to glimpse the top.

Clenching her teeth, she finally walked inside.

“Excuse me, I’d like to see Marcus. Could you tell me which floor he’s on?”

Natalic approached the reception desk, her gaze landing on the sleek–haired beauty behind it.

The receptionist gave her a once–over. “You’re here to see Mr. Collins? Do you have an appointment?”

Natalie gave a small nod. “Not exactly. I don’t have an appointment–I came on short notice because something came up.”

The receptionist frowned. “You don’t look like a client. Mr. Collins doesn’t meet with anyone outside of clients. Who exactly are you?”

Natalie froze, unsure what to say.

She and Jackson were nearly divorced; bringing up her identity right now didn’t seem appropriate. And calling herself “family” would draw far too much attention.

After hesitating a moment, she finally said lightly, “I’m his friend.”

“Sorry, but every day we get too many women trying to use that ‘friend‘ excuse to get close to our CEO. Without an appointment, I can’t let you up. Maybe you should just call him.”

Just last week, a financial magazine had run a feature on Marcus, complete with his photo. Since then, the influx of women showing up and calling themselves his “friends” had been endless.

The front desk staff had been dealing with it nonstop.

Natalie’s expression tightened as she looked at the woman. She hadn’t expected to be stopped here.

The receptionist, however, looked as though she were watching a joke play out, her eyes filled with disdain.

Natalie suddenly realized how abrupt her own behavior must have seemed.

She forced a small smile. “Never mind then–I’ll come back another time.”

“Miss-”

Natalie had just turned to leave when the receptionist’s voice followed her, colder and more arrogant than before.

Natalic glanced back. “Yes?”

“Please don’t come here again. It only makes more work for us.” The woman sneered. “Mr. Collins isn’t some shallow man who can be lured in with cheap tricks.”

Natalic understood well enough what she meant. Her face chilled; she was about to reply when a familiar yet unexpected voice cut in from behind.

Chapter 137 1

Seeing her expression soften, Ruben’s lips curved into a faint smile. “In that case, come with me. I’m heading to a project meeting anyway.”
