Natalie hadn’t even had time to react before Marcus‘ hand slid to her hips; in one swift motion, he lifted her off the desk and carried her toward the lounge.
Her long, pale legs instinctively wrapped around his waist. The position was so intimate, so charged, that her face burned and her heart hammered wildly.
The door slammed shut; he flicked the lock in the same motion.
Natalic wriggled free of his arms, panic flashing in her eyes. “Marcus, why is she here?”
He pressed her against the door, pinning her hands firmly above her head, a cold, teasing smile curving his lips. “Ms. Foster, you’re so nervous it almost makes me think we’re having an affair. Why do you give me that impression?”
Her gaze shot upward, meeting the faint trace of wicked amusement in his upturned eyes.
His hand rose, brushing along her cheek. When his fingertip grazed her lips, her hands instinctively clutched at his wrist.
“Mr. Collins, don’t…”
He leaned closer, his voice dropping low. “Don’t what?”
Natalie bit her lip and blurted, “Adelyn’s outside. Please, don’t do this…”
The words had barely left her mouth when the main office door swung open.
“Marcus?”
Adelyn’s voice rang out; her footsteps drew closer.
Natalie’s pulse spiked. She shot Marcus a frantic look, then glanced toward the floor–to–ceiling windows.
“She’s looking for you. Just go out there–I’ll hide behind the curtains.”
Even though Adelyn was married, Natalie could sense the woman’s lingering feelings for Marcus; she was also the one Marcus had once cared about.
No matter what, Natalie couldn’t let Adelyn find her here.
The next second, Marcus shoved her behind the lounge door before pulling the office door open.
From the outside, no one would be able to see her–but the abruptness of it made Natalie’s spine stiffen.
Frozen behind the door, she didn’t dare move a muscle.
Marcus stepped out, leaving the lounge door half–closed, not fully shut.
Natalie’s eyes flicked instinctively to the narrow gap; through it she saw Marcus head toward the sofa, while Adelyn entered carrying a lunch box.
