Shattered Then Healed By His Love (by Haley Blanton) novel Chapter 141

Chapter 141 My Man Not Yours

Adelyn let go of her hand, her voice dropping to a low, sharp tone. “Since you claim to be Marcus‘ niece–in–law, you’d better remember your place. Don’t get too close to him; I’m about to get divorced, and after that, he’s my man…”

My man. The moment those words brushed past her ears, Natalie’s heart seemed to skip a beat.

Her throat tightened, making it impossible to speak.

And the thought–that Marcus might actually like this woman–settled in her chest like a stone, heavy and suffocating.

There were no words to describe the feeling.

“I heard you’re divorcing Jackson too, but Marcus is your uncle by marriage; he’s not a man you should even think about. Do you understand?”

Natalie’s expression darkened, her face hardening as Adelyn’s warning tone echoed in the cramped space.

After a long, heavy pause, her voice came out cool and detached. “Since you’re so fond of him, Ms. Foster, why did you marry another man in the first place?”

She’d only wanted to probe for the truth; but Adelyn’s lips were sealed, not a single word slipping out.

Turning to wash her hands, Adelyn said coldly, “That’s none of your business.”

Natalie didn’t respond. She simply cast her a cold glance and strode out of the restroom.

By the time she drove back to the clinic, it was nearly eleven.

The sun was bright that day, glaring off the windshield until she had to squint against the light.

When she finally arrived, she couldn’t find it in herself to focus the entire afternoon; Adelyn’s words kept looping in her mind, relentless and sharp.

By evening, her emotions had dulled a little, though a heaviness still lingered.

Then–familiar footsteps approached from the direction of the door.

Natalie looked up at the sound, and her eyes immediately landed on Jackson, striding toward her with brisk determination.

Her brows knit together. “What are you doing here?

He didn’t answer. Without a word, he grabbed her wrist and dragged her toward the break room.

The sharp slam of the door reverberated through every corner of the room.

Jackson shoved her into a chair, towering over her with a glare. “Was it you who exposed Victoria’s scandal?”

Natalie’s laugh was sharp and icy. “And who told you that–Rayne?”

“The day Grandfather had his accident, Victoria’s car got sideswiped. After the police investigated, they confirmed the driver was one of her haters; she’s never liked Victoria, and this scandal just pushed her over the edge!”

“Oh…” Natalie arched a brow, her smile edged with irony. “So it was a hater? Then I’d say she finally did something useful.”

How funny. She lifted her chin, her words sharp and deliberate. “Jackson, do you even have a heart?”
