150 Hands Off The Wrist

Natalie quickly tugged the seatbelt from his hand, forcing a small, polite smile. I can do it myself.

The closeness between them was overwhelming; in an instant, her cheeks flamed with heat.

Marcuslips curved lazily, a low, husky chuckle slipping out. Ms. Foster, what are you so nervous about?

He leaned back in his seat, pulling his own belt across and clicking it into place.

Am I?Natalie said, feigning nonchalance. I don’t think so. Why would I be nervous?

His smile deepened, but he didn’t say another word.

When they arrived at the restaurant, Natalie froze at the sight before her.

He had brought her to an upscale restaurant, the kind where a single meal could easily cost tens of thousands. Good thing she’d just finished restoring that antique vase and earned eighty thousand; otherwise, this dinner would’ve been impossible to afford.

Once they were seated across from each other, Marcus looked up, his tone easy and relaxed. I wasn’t sure what you liked, and since we’ve never eaten here before, I figured I’d pick this place. The steak’s great, you should try it. If you end up liking it, you can bring Lily next time.

All right.

Natalie dipped her head slightly, the corners of her lips curving up despite herself.

The steaks had barely been served when a sharp, grating voice shattered the quiet.

Natalie? Uncle Marcus?

Natalie looked up, brows knitting as her gaze fell on the man standing nearby. Why is it that no matter where I go, I keep running into them? Just my luck.

Marcuseyes followed hers, his expression impossible to read as he finally looked up.

The moment he saw Jackson and Victoria standing there, his sharp gaze iced over, turning dangerously cold.

Setting down his knife and fork with practiced ease, his voice came slow, detached. Nephew. What a coincidence.

Jackson hadn’t even spoken yet when Victoria jumped in, her tone sharp with disbelief. Mr. Collins, why are you having dinner with her? Just the two of you?

Marcusmouth curved into a cool, almost mocking smile, his tone laced with casual disdain. Steak is meant for two people, not three. I’m not fond of crowdsand I don’t have that particular habit.

The implication was clear; everyone at the table caught it.

A seemingly simple comment, yet it dripped with quiet, cutting irony aimed straight at Jackson and Victoria.

Natalie, come with me. We need to talk.

Jackson grabbed her hand and tugged her to her feet.

Jackson.

Marcus picked up his napkin, wiped the corner of his mouth with unhurried precision, and set it down again, his every move refined, deliberate.

Jackson froze midstep, his grip on Natalie’s wrist tightening as his eyes lifted to meet Marcus!

Natalie turned toward the source of that calm, steady voice, only to find his gaze locked on them; in the depths of his eyes burned something sharp and dangerous.

She’s my wife,Jackson said, his tone sharp, stripped of its usual warmth, replaced by a cold, mocking edge. Uncle Marcus, you’re not going to tell me I can’t even talk to her, are you?

Marcus tilted his head slightly, gaze steady, his words deceptively mild. Is there something you and Ms. Victoria can’t hear?

His eyes slid, almost lazily, toward Victoria.

Victoria stiffened, sensing the weight in his look, but pressed anyway, her voice rising with curiosity. “Yeah, Jackson, what is it? Just say it here.

These are things that can’t be said in front of others. It’s between me and my wife,Jackson said, his voice dropping lower, edged with frustration.

Natalie, who had been silent all this time, yanked her wrist free, her patience fraying. Without a word, she turned on her heel and strode toward the restroom.
