Chapter 153 Crossing the Line
“Someone will come by for it later. Don’t worry.” Marcus rested his hand on her forehead, his voice a low, soothing murmur.
Natalie gave a slight nod and allowed herself to be guided into the car. She had been drunk before, but still coherent. Now, on the drive, the world began to blur at the edges.
When the car came to a smooth stop, she realized they were at his house.
“You’re drunk. If you go back now, Lily and your friend will worry.” Seeing the question in her eyes, he explained, “Stay here tonight.”
He didn’t give her a chance to refuse, lifting her from the car in one smooth motion. And she… she hadn’t planned on going back to her own apartment anyway.
This wasn’t her first time at his house, but it was the first time she had been in his bedroom. She was surprised he had brought her here. She sniffed at herself, then stood and walked toward the ensuite. “I want to take a shower…”
Marcus strode past her. “I’ll draw the water for you.”
A fresh wave of tension washed over her as he entered the bathroom ahead of her. The image of Jackson, his hands around her throat in the stairwell, flashed through her mind. If that was the game, then she would play it, too. Why was he allowed to do as he pleased while she was not?
She walked into the bathroom and, standing directly in front of Marcus, shrugged off her cardigan. It was late summer, and she was wearing only a thin, black slip dress underneath. The cardigan fell away, revealing her pale shoulders and the elegant line of her neck.
Marcus, who had been bent over the tub, froze. His hand, which had been on the faucet, stilled. A second later, he was in front of her, pulling the cardigan back up, covering her bare skin.
“What are you doing?” Natalie frowned, a look of genuine confusion on her face.
A complex emotion flickered in his dark eyes. “Natalie, has no one ever told you not to undress in front of a man? Do you know what this implies?”
