Chapter 162 A Calculated Move

Natalie’s body tensed. The night before was the night she had gotten drunk and stayed at Marcus’s house. She had a vague, hazy memory of sending Lucy a text, but the details of the night itself were a blur she couldn’t possibly confess.

She forced a calm expression and came up with a quick lic. “I was working late at the clinic, so I didn’t come home.”

“Really?” Lucy followed her up the stairs. “I thought you were with Marcus. That’s why I didn’t want to bother you. So you weren’t with him?”

“No,” Natalie said, shaking her head a little too quickly. “Why would I be with him?”

“Something’s off with you,” Lucy said, her eyes narrowing. “I can feel it.”

“What’s off?” Natalie said, quickening her pace. “You’re imagining things.”

Before Lucy could press further, Natalie had disappeared into her room. She closed the door, her heart hammering against her ribs, a wild, frantic rhythm she couldn’t seem to control.

As she was getting ready for bed, Lucy’s words echoed in her mind. After some thought, she decided to text Marcus. She opened the messaging app on her secondary phone and composed a text.

“The show is the day after tomorrow. Have you come up with a plan?”

Two minutes later, her phone pinged with a reply. Marcus had sent her a phone number, followed by a short message.

“This is the number for the appraisal show’s production team. Call in to expose her. If you don’t want to reveal your identity or if your voice is still bothering you, have someone else make the call for you.”

A slow smile spread across her lips as she read his words. Calling in was the perfect way to do it. The production team’s number wasn’t public; on her own, she never would have been able to get it. The first step would have been a dead end. But for Marcus, with his status and connections, it was a simple matter.

“Okay, thank you. When this is over, I will fulfill my promise and repair the pendant.”
