Chapter 80 The Thing You Wanted
Lily’s steps unconsciously quickened.
Seeing this, Jackson felt both angry and amused.
Just how afraid of him was she?
Didn’t his uncle usually act colder than he did?
Natalie had originally planned to stop by a used car dealership that evening to look for a car she could use for commuting. But after what happened today, she lost all interest in car shopping. She took Lily home early and started preparing dinner.
Lucy also finished work earlier than usual, and by the time she got home, Natalie had just finished cooking.
“I thought you weren’t back yet! Didn’t expect you to beat me here.” Lucy frowned slightly as gaze fell on the table full of food. “Why did you make all this?” her
“There’s a saying I like: when your heart is wounded, you should eat well. The stomach is the closest organ to the heart, so once it’s full, your mood improves.”
Natalie spoke with utter seriousness as she pulled out a chair and sat down.
“Looks like today really was a rough one,” Lucy muttered, sitting across from her, her chilling.
Natalie served Lily some food, then looked up at Lucy. “It’s already over.”
“You mean you’re just going to let it go? Not fight back?” Lucy’s tone was anxious. “This was clearly Victoria’s doing. You don’t even need to investigate to know it. You can’t let her walk all over you like this!”
“Of course I’ll fight back. Just not now.”
“Then when?”
Unhurriedly, Natalie replied, “When the time is right, I’ll act.”
“Three years ago you suffered humiliation because of that woman. Now you’ve come out after three years, and she still won’t leave you alone. Can you really swallow that?”
Lucy’s grip on her fork tightened.

“Whether I can or not, I have to. This time it was Zoey who acted. Even if I investigate, there’s no guarantee I’ll find a trail leading back to Victoria. She’s sly, probably wiped her hands clean long ago…”
Natalie lifted her gaze and continued, “Even if I did find proof, in my current situation, what could I do? Put a knife to her throat?”
Lucy’s face darkened further.
“Even if I managed to put her away, Jackson would probably have her out within an hour. Do you believe me?”
Natalie’s voice was calm, though the curve of her lips carried a mocking smile.
Lucy met her eyes and sensed something hidden in their depths, unfathomable.
“But we can’t just let it slide…”
