Chapter 85 The Slap
“They.”
Though Victoria hadn’t said a name, Natalie instantly knew she meant Jackson and Aiden.
Natalie’s lips curved into a sharp smile. “I know they’ll shield you. But tell me-can they shield you for a moment, or for a lifetime?”
“Ms. Foster, what exactly do you mean by that?”
Victoria’s face darkened to its ugliest.
“Exactly what it sounds like.” Natalie’s expression stayed cold. “This time, I’ll let it there’s a next time, Ms. Hayes, you’d better think carefully.”
“I told you, this has nothing to do with me-”
Natalie turned to leave, but her wrist was suddenly yanked back.
But if
She lowered her gaze to see Victoria gripping her hand tightly, refusing to release her.
“Let go.”
Disgust flared in Natalie’s eyes.
“If you dare spout nonsense about me to Jackson, I’ll make you pay—”
Before the words were finished, Natalie’s hand swung up.
Smack-
The slap rang loud and clear across the corridor.
Victoria stared at her in shock, too stunned to react.
Just then, Jackson stepped out, intending to call Victoria for dinner, only to witness the very moment Natalie struck her.

His sharp shout pierced Natalie’s ears.

“Jackson, you came just in time. Ms. Foster and I were talking just fine, and then she suddenly hit me for no reason.” Her voice caught pitifully. “It hurts so much…”
Jackson quickly pulled her hand away from her face.
Five bright red fingerprints glared back at him.
His expression darkened, sharp with fury.
He snapped his gaze to Natalie, voice ice-cold. “Why did you hit her?”
Natalie’s reply was calm, measured. “Why don’t you ask her what she said to me first?”
Jackson’s temper flared. “No matter what she said, that doesn’t give you the right to hit her.”
“Oh? Mr. Collins is feeling distressed for her already?”
Natalie’s lips lifted in a cold smile, her eyes gleaming with scorn.
Because of this woman’s schemes, she had endured three years of prison torment-beatings, humiliation, endless suffering.
But the moment she returned a single slap, Jackson’s heart ached as if Victoria had been mortally wounded.
The contrast was laughable.
“Apologize. Now!”
“And if I don’t?” Natalie’s smile was careless, mocking. “Will Mr. Collins hit me on her behalf?”
“You-”
Jackson’s hand had already lifted into the air.
Natalie saw it rise, felt the air around them grow heavy.
But she didn’t flinch, didn’t even blink, staring him down with steady eyes.
“Jackson!”
