Chapter 87 Trapped

It was the first time he had ever heard her call him that.

And for some reason…

It left him deeply, irrationally unsettled.

By the end of dinner, the men had gone through several bottles of wine. Both Jackson and Marcus were drunk enough that neither could leave the estate. Victoria and Aiden were forced to stay the night as well.

Natalie was about to call a car when Gabriel’s voice stopped her. “Natalie, Jackson’s drunk tonight. Stay and look after him.”

“But, Grandpa…” She scrambled for an excuse. “Lily is still at my place. I need to go home and take care of her.”

Before Gabriel could respond, Aiden cut in first. “Isn’t your friend staying at your house? She can take care of the little girl, can’t she?”

At his words, all eyes shifted toward Natalie.

Her gaze fixed on the boy, and her chest tightened. He was just like his father-always cutting straight to her weakest spot.

Piercing, merciless.

If she refused again, she would only seem like a thoughtless wife in front of the family.

And for Gabriel’s health, she couldn’t afford to cause conflict. For now, she would have to swallow her pride and hold off on the divorce.

“Mom, just take Dad upstairs to rest. Tonight, Ms. Victoria and I will sleep in the guest room.”

Aiden leaned naturally into Victoria’s side, beaming brightly.

Natalie’s eyes darkened.

Closer to another woman than to his own mother. How laughable.

“Natalie, take Jackson upstairs. He can barely stand,” Gabriel urged again.

Resigned, Natalie nodded. She stepped over to Jackson and lifted him from the couch.

He was so drunk he swayed unsteadily as he stood.

Across from them, Marcus’s eyes followed their backs, his expression shadowed with a heavy. stormy darkness.

And Victoria, too, watched them with sharp eyes.

“Ms. Victoria, it’s nearly nine. Let’s go upstairs and get ready for bed,” Aiden said, tugging her hand.

“Alright.”

She reached down to smooth his hair, her gaze soft with affection.

When everyone had finally dispersed, Marcus rose slowly from the couch. His steps carried him toward the staircase, his eyes locked on the closed door on the second floor.

As he drew closer, faint sounds slipped through the wood.

“Jackson, you bastard!”

His hand reached the doorknob, fingers curling around the cold brass.

But before he could turn it, footsteps echoed from the third floor.

He released it quickly, retreating into the next room. From the balcony, he strained to hear through the walls.

Inside the room-

Jackson had Natalie pinned to the mattress, both her wrists locked firmly in his grip.

His long legs straddled her waist, caging her beneath him, his face twisted with anger as he glared down.

Natalie glared back with equal fury. “Let go!”

“Why did you hit her just now?”

The corners of his eyes were red, his whole body radiating an oppressive weight.

From the moment she had dragged him upstairs, he had hounded her relentlessly, demanding to know why she struck Victoria, as if he were Victoria’s champion.

The sight of it only made Natalie want to laugh.
