Stand Me Up? I'll Marry His Billionaire Uncle novel Chapter 105

A question slowly surfaced in Abbot's mind.

Five years ago, he'd used those exact words to pressure his son about settling down. Now, five years later, Stellan was the one bringing it up? Had he finally come around?

Abbot's tone grew earnest and fatherly. "Well, son, I don't have any special requirements for your wife. As long as she's gracious and carries herself well, that's all that matters. If she comes from an ordinary family, that's fine too—our family doesn't need to arrange alliances with anyone. The most important thing is that you like her."

Nothing mattered more than his son's happiness.

Stellan's lips curled into a faint smile. "I do, Dad. I really do."

Abbot's face lit up. "That's wonderful! Next time you get a chance, bring her by so I can meet her."

"She's a little shy. I wouldn't want to overwhelm her. Maybe next month?"

After they signed the marriage papers, he'd bring her home, of course.

Abbot, unaware of his son's little schemes, assumed his soon-to-be daughter-in-law was genuinely shy.

The call ended not long after, their conversation brief.

Stellan dialed the house manager, Reed. "Reed, she stopped by today. How did everything go?"

"All went smoothly, sir. Although… Miss Carrington seemed a bit down today."

Stellan's gaze darkened as his smile faded. "She seemed down?"

"Yes, sir. I called her name twice, but she seemed lost in thought."

Stellan frowned, thoughtful. Why was she upset? It didn't sound like it was because of him. Was it because of Tristan?

"Alright. I understand."

After hanging up on her boss, Sunny stared at the group chat for the merger project. She fought the urge to vent there, opting instead to call the project lead, Manager Pierce.

Jude Pierce had just returned to his office, his tone cool. "Hello? Who's this?"

Sunny had come prepared with a whole list of grievances, but she hadn't expected Manager Pierce to side with her so readily—he wasn't defending his own staff, but backing her instead.

"That's all I can ask, Manager Pierce. Thank you. I feel reassured."

As soon as the call ended, Jude Pierce called for a team meeting.

He hadn't even reached the conference room when a message popped up from Mr. Lawson.

[Stellan: Jude Pierce, is there a problem with VeriTrust Group's merger?]

Jude immediately assumed Sunny had gone straight to Mr. Lawson.

Attorney Carrington was full of surprises—he'd never realized how important she was to their CEO. Jude's mind flashed back to the photo Mr. Lawson had posted on his social media yesterday. He zoomed in; if you looked closely, you could just make out a figure reflected in the window—a silhouette that looked strikingly like Attorney Carrington.

A chill ran down his spine. He replied at once: [Mr. Lawson, there's no problem. Regarding the rumor Attorney Carrington mentioned, I'm investigating it personally and will make sure she gets a proper explanation!]

Stellan's long, elegant fingers toyed with a silver lighter, his voice cold and sharp: "A rumor?"
