Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 335

He stepped out of the car and headed inside.

As soon as Sandra Taylor saw him, she rushed over to greet him, her smile warm and inviting. “You’re back! Long day, huh?”

Jordan Smith just nodded, his expression distant. He shrugged off his suit jacket and dropped onto the couch, rubbing his thigh absentmindedly.

Sandra didn’t notice his discomfort; instead, her eyes darted around, searching for something.

A subtle disappointment crept across her face.

It was Valentine’s Day. She’d reminded him more than once, dropped plenty of hints. She’d honestly thought he’d bring home flowers or a little gift.

But he’d come back empty-handed.

Seriously, it was their first Valentine’s Day together—how could he be so indifferent?

Sandra felt a pang of hurt, but she pushed it down and forced a smile. “Hungry? Want something to eat? I made steak, opened that bottle of wine we’ve been saving… We’ve had such a rough patch lately—let’s just enjoy the holiday and take our minds off things, okay?”

Her words were gentle, but the hint was clear.

But at that, Jordan’s brow furrowed, even deeper than before.

Did she not see his leg was bothering him?

And honestly, after just getting through another round of business dinners, was steak and red wine really the best idea?

His mind wandered, unbidden, to Camila Davis. She was nothing like this. She’d always notice right away if something was wrong. After every late meeting or corporate event, she’d have ginger tea ready and a pot of homemade chicken soup simmering on the stove—something light and easy for his stomach.

Jordan felt his irritation rising, and his voice was sharp. “I’m not hungry. You go ahead. Oh, and—remember you said you’d contact that famous doctor down south about my leg? What happened with that?”
