He’s in Harrisburg???
Sandra Taylor’s face went pale, and she practically flung her phone across the room.
…
After leaving the restaurant, Camila Davis got a ride home from Dennis Williams.
When she stepped out of the car, she turned to him and said, “I had a great time today. Thanks for hanging out with Lillian all afternoon, Mr. Williams.”
Lillian piped up from the back seat with her sweet little voice, “Thank you, Uncle!”
Dennis ruffled her hair, smiling. “No need to thank me, kiddo. As long as you had fun… And hey, Lillian, you start school tomorrow, right? We’ll figure out the next check-up some other time.”
“Okay!”
Camila nodded. “We’ll head inside. Drive safe, you guys!”
Lillian waved her tiny hand and followed her mom out of the car.
Just as they were about to leave, Dennis called out, “Wait a sec.”
“Yeah?” Camila turned back, a little confused. “Did you forget something?”
Dennis didn’t answer right away. He just reached over to the passenger seat, grabbed a bag, and handed it to her. “I had Aaron pick this up earlier. Lillian gave me two gifts today—this is a little something in return. And, you know, to celebrate her first day of school.”
Camila couldn’t help but laugh. “You really didn’t have to! First you tell me not to be so formal, and now you’re the one going overboard.”
“It’s nothing fancy, just some candy. Take it,” Dennis said, his voice gentle but firm—like he wasn’t taking no for an answer.
Camila gave in and took the bag.
