Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 362

Lillian had slept like a log, and after spending a whole day at the military base housing, she was in high spirits—ready to head back to school and pick up where she left off.

So as soon as they left the base, Dennis Williams drove her straight to campus.

When they got out of the car, Larry Adams spotted them and couldn’t help but tease, “Well, well, what’s this? Dennis, you’re chauffeuring today?”

Camila Davis laughed and explained, “We had to swing by the base yesterday, and since it rained like crazy, we ended up staying the night. Figured we’d just come in together this morning.”

“Oh, that’s how it is…” Larry nodded, but the look he shot Dennis was heavy with unspoken meaning.

Look at you, Dennis… Spending the night out with her and the kid, huh?

Of course, not in that way—but still, back in the day, this would’ve been unthinkable.

Nobody knew Dennis better than Larry. His old buddy used to barely glance at women, let alone end up in these situations!

Dennis caught Larry’s teasing stare but just ignored it, shutting the car door with a thud and calling out to Aaron, “Let’s go. Drop Ms. Davis at the research center.”

“Yes, sir!”

Aaron was in a good mood, too.

No one knew better than him just how things were developing between Mr. Williams and Ms. Davis.

If they could drive the kid to school together today, maybe it wouldn’t be long before they were doing everything together as a family.

Of course, that was the kind of thing you kept to yourself around Mr. Williams.

About half an hour later, they pulled up in front of the research institute.

Camila hopped out and thanked Dennis before heading inside.

She’d barely stepped through the door when she ran into Walter Wilson.

Camila was a little surprised to see him. “What brings you here?”

They were partners, sure, but Walter almost never came by—he was usually swamped managing things at The Wilson Group.

Walter didn’t answer right away. Instead, his eyes flicked to the car she’d just arrived in. “Did someone drop you off just now?”

“Oh.” Camila shrugged like it was nothing. “Yeah, Mr. Williams brought me. Lillian wasn’t feeling well yesterday, and he helped out a lot.”

Walter’s eyebrows shot up. “What happened?”

“Long story.” Camila shook her head, clearly not wanting to get into it. “So, what’s up? Why are you here?”

Walter straightened, getting serious. “The Pharmaceutical Association’s guests have started arriving in Harrisburg. I made some calls—Mr. Morris is already here.”

At that, Camila’s heart skipped a beat. “My mentor really showed up?”

He nodded, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Want to go see him?”
