Swapping a Broken Heart for a New Start novel Chapter 376

“I don’t buy it either…”

“Dude, maybe keep your voice down.”

“If Sandra Taylor isn’t the one, did Mr. Morris’s protégé even show up tonight? Where are they hiding?”

The guests were buzzing with speculation when Mr. Morris finally pulled his gaze away from Sandra Taylor.

His look was icy, and when he spoke, his voice was as flat as unsalted mashed potatoes. “Can I help you?”

He didn’t even bother reaching for his wine glass, just leaned back in his chair, cool as a cucumber, not giving Sandra the time of day.

But Sandra wasn’t fazed. She pasted on a bright smile and said, “Oh, it’s nothing really. I’ve just admired you for such a long time.”

“Back in the day, everyone in med school talked about you. Your reputation in the medical world is legendary, Mr. Morris. Even outside the field—heck, my friends from Boston have heard of you!”

Mr. Morris’s expression didn’t budge, not even a twitch.

He replied, deadpan, “There’s no need for flattery. I’m not nearly as impressive as you make me out to be.”

Sandra turned up her theatrics. “Oh, come on! If you weren’t so incredible, why would there be a line out the door at your clinic every morning? Don’t be so modest.”

Without waiting for a response, she lifted her glass. “Mr. Morris, cheers to you. I’ll drink to that.”

She downed her champagne in one go, then finally got to her real point. “It’s a little crowded here, not the best place to talk. But later tonight, we’ve reserved a suite at the Lakeside Resort—hot tub and all. If you have time, we’d love for you to join us for a proper chat.”

The nearby guests nearly spit out their cocktails. Was Sandra Taylor really on such familiar terms with the legendary Mr. Morris?

Everyone assumed he’d accept the invitation.

But he didn’t.
