Mr. Harris chuckled. “That was my oversight. But meeting Ms. Davis is a real privilege for you. Don’t ever take it for granted again, understand?”
At first, Mr. Harris had probably still seen Camila Davis as just a junior.
But ever since he’d heard about her impressive track record at the military base, his perspective shifted.
This young woman in front of him was someone even the top brass praised—someone who might soon be recruited by the Pentagon itself.
She had a bright future ahead, no doubt about it.
Jessica Harris could hear the weight in her grandfather’s voice and straightened up immediately. “Don’t worry, Grandpa. I won’t make that mistake again!”
Camila smiled politely. “Mr. Harris, you flatter me.”
While the three were chatting, Walter Wilson, who had been watching the drama unfold, finally strolled over with his signature lazy grin. “Thanks for choosing to work with our company, Ms. Harris. Good thing the old Mr. Wilson showed up when he did to save your eyesight—otherwise, I’d have dragged you to the ER myself for a checkup.”
His words were teasing, just the kind of thing you’d only say to someone you knew well.
Jessica shot him an exasperated look. “Seriously, Walter? You brought Ms. Davis here and then disappeared, just to mess with me?”
She was a little annoyed—and secretly blamed herself for not checking the company name on the contract earlier. If she had, she would’ve realized what was going on and wouldn’t have treated Camila so carelessly.
Walter just shrugged and grinned, saying nothing. He hadn’t meant to play Jessica, not exactly—he had other reasons.
He glanced casually across the room to where Jordan Smith stood, not looking happy at all.
Jordan had seen everything. He’d watched as the Harris family treated Camila Davis with unexpected respect.
When did she get close to the Harrises? He’d never heard a word about it.
Sandra Taylor noticed Jordan sulking with his drink and rushed over, trying to smooth things over. “Jordan, I’m sorry. I couldn’t close the deal, I didn’t expect Camila to know Mr. Harris… Why didn’t she say anything? This was a huge opportunity—she should’ve helped Smith & Co., not hand it off to the Wilsons. I’m used to putting together proposals, but what she did… she embarrassed you in front of everyone.”
Jordan’s face grew colder, irritation simmering in his chest.
“If the deal’s off, there’s no reason to stick around,” he said, slamming his glass down and striding away.
