The Heiress Chooses Madness novel Chapter 120

Every time Tania heard about Kayla’s oneagainstmany showdown that day, regret twisted in her chest. Why did I have to get sick that exact day?she thought bitterly. Of all the days to miss school, I had to miss that.

By the time she finally got back to school, she heard all about what went downand honestly, just hearing the story freaked her out.

She must’ve felt so isolated, Tania thought, guilt gnawing at her. And I wasn’t there. I couldn’t help her.

Not that she would’ve been much use anyway, if she was being honest. She probably would’ve frozen up the second she saw that crowd, maybe even wet herself from sheer terror.

But still the ending had been perfect. Whenever Tania thought about what happened to Hailey, satisfaction bloomed warm in her chest.

Seriously, it was just like watching a dramatotally satisfying and made her want to cheer.

It was so addictive, Tania just couldn’t get enough!

But honestly, Tania thought for sure Hailey would at least get sent to juvie for all that rumorspreading. She never expected her to be let out so soon.

Tania couldn’t help but worry about Kayla.

Kayla stuffed her textbook into her bag, her expression utterly unmoved by the news.

So what if she’s out? Big deal, she said with a casual shrug.

Hailey getting released from the police stationI saw that coming from a mile away,’ she thought. There wasn’t even a flicker of surprise in her eyes.

Tania stared at her in shock, searching Kayla’s face for any sign of concern. How can you be so calm about this? Aren’t you afraid she’ll come after you?

The memory of Hailey’s previous boldness hung heavy in the air between themhow she’d rallied those students to corner Kayla, how she’d brazenly tried to pay someone to hurt her.

Now that Hailey had walked right out of the station like nothing ever happened, Tania just knew she’d be all the more fearless.

She’s going to go completely off the rails now, Tania thought, anxiety twisting in her stomach.

Kayla reached over and gently smoothed away the worried lines creasing Tania’s forehead, her touch surprisingly tender. Look at you, worrying yourself into an old woman at your age.”

Tania swatted Kayla’s hand away, irritation flashing across her features. I’m being serious here. How can you joke around at a time like this?

A faint smile played at the corners of Kayla’s mouth as she zipped up her bag with deliberate slowness.

Just as they stepped out of the classroom, they almost bumped straight into Hailey, fresh from the principal’s

office, with a whole crew of bodyguards dressed in black trailing behind her.

Hailey’s face darkened as soon as she saw Kayla, her eyes full of pure venomlike she might go for Kayla’s throat any second.

Tania instinctively shrank behind Kayla, her eyes darting nervously between the towering bodyguards. If they actually make a move, what are our chances of getting out of here alive?she wondered, calculating their odds of escape and finding them depressingly low.
