A sly look flashed across Payton’s face. Since Ms. Nielsen clearly doesn’t give a damn about our class, why don’t we return the favor? One bet or two, what’s the difference?

Kayla instantly got what he meant, but uncertainty crept in. She frowned slightly, I’m fine with it, but I’m not sure everyone else will go along with this.

During the open class, even when Class A provoked them, Class G couldn’t get their act together. Now that it was their own teacher standing against them, getting the class to fight back seemed nearly impossible.

As soon as the bell rang, Tania rushed over with a bunch of Class G students, worried about Kayla. She figured she’d find her and Payton bored out of their minds, just killing time in the hallway.

Instead, Kayla and Payton were leaning against the railing, deep in conversation. Their eyes were practically sparkling with excitement about something.

As Tania got closer, she realized they were discussing the math exam. Seriously? I was freaking out for nothing,’ she thought, momentarily speechless.

Sensing people behind them, Kayla and Payton turned around in unison, meeting the group’s confused expressions.

Kayla blinked. What’s up?

Tania looked genuinely worried. Kay, are you guys okay?

Kayla pressed her lips together before giving a small nod. There’skinda something up,she admitted quietly.

Tania’s expression grew more worried. Kay, don’t let it get to you. Ravenna’s just mad right now. Give it a couple days and she’ll cool off—

Before Tania could finish, Kayla cut her off with a laugh. What are you even talking about? I’m just saying it’s lunchtime and I’m starving. If you guys don’t hurry up, Payton and I are ditching you for the cafeteria.

Tania blinked, then broke into an embarrassed grin. Oh thank god. I thought you were upset. Okay, I was totally overthinking it. Come on, let’s go cat.

Just as they got in line, someone shoved Tania hard from behind. Move it, loser!

Tania whipped around, clearly pissed, and saw a group of Class A students standing there. Marianna and Davon were with themMarianna with her arm in a sling, Davon hobbling on crutches.

Tania’s face darkened. Seriously? Didn’t you see there’s a line here?

One of the Class A students gave them a dismissive look and turned to his friends. Class G sucks at everything except eating. You guys are always first in line for food.

Anyway, with grades like yours, you’d think you’d know to move aside. Let us eat first. We’ve got work to do after this. Unlike you guys who just waste time all day.

Class G students fired up instantly, refusing to budge. Why the hell should we? First come, first served. It’s basic manners. Did all your studying just rot your brains or what?

The Class A studentsfaces darkened, clearly pissed that the kids they always looked down on were talking

back.

Marianna noticed the tension and gave Kayla a gentle look, her voice sweet. Kayla, could you please calm your classmates down? We need to get back to studying soon. Unlike your class, we don’t have much free time.

Kayla raised an eyebrow and shot Marianna a casual glance, catching the smug little smirk in her eyes.

She didn’t hold back at all and just scoffed right at her. If you’re so obsessed with studying, why bother eating? Don’t your textbooks have everything you need? All that brain foodnot filling you up? So what are you fighting us for?

Class G cracked up, the whole group laughing. For real! Class A acts like all they need is study. Why do you even need lunch?

Exactly. If you love studying so much, eating’s just a waste of time. Why are you even here?another shouted.

As everyone piled on, Marianna’s cheeks flushed red and her eyes went glossy with tears. She put on her most wounded look. Kayla, I was just trying to work something out. Even if you won’t let us go first, did you really have to humiliate me like this?

Or are you just scared I’ll beat you in finals, so you’re trying to waste our study time on purpose? Do you honestly think that’ll help you win?

Kayla just stared at Marianna’s supposedly innocent face, catching the sneaky calculation in her eyes.

Honestly, Marianna could twist facts like it was an Olympic sport. They were the ones causing trouble, but somehow she’d managed to make Kayla look like the villain, painting her as a sore loser playing dirty tricks.

Before Kayla could respond, Payton stepped forward, blocking her protectively and flashing a cold smile. Marianna, I know you’re dying to turn on the waterworks, but can you hold off for a sec?

You guys are the ones starting trouble, so how are we suddenly the bad guys? Just because we’re Class G, you think we’re supposed to roll over and do whatever you say?
