“Okay, enough already. Every time you opened your mouth, the whole room felt tense.”
Ursula snapped at Gianna, her patience clearly gone.

She’d been around long enough to tell who was real and who was fake. Back then, she’d just let the small stuff slide.
Years of eating vegetarian meals, praying, and staying at the church had left her with no interest in petty drama..
But now Conrad was gone, and she’d moved back. She couldn’t keep looking the other way.
“Sorry, Grandma. I was wrong. I won’t do it again.”
Gianna lowered her head, acting all meek, though inside she hated Ursula even more.
She was just waiting for the right chance to poison Ursula again.
“You’re always saying you’re wrong. I never asked for that. I only told you to talk less. Don’t make yourself the victim.”
Ursula frowned, her annoyance with Gianna’s fake tone only growing.
If her grandsons or daughter–in–law overheard, they’d probably accuse her of being unfair again.
Amelia heard her grandmother’s words and let out a little laugh.
Who knew Ursula would only get sharper with age and see right through the act?
Gianna caught the laugh and burned inside with anger.
She pouted, looking pathetic as she shot a glance at her three brothers, hoping for some
support.
Marcelo and Miguel overheard and felt bad for her. They almost stepped in to comfort her.
That was when Vincent walked in with Diana.
Everyone immediately turned their attention to them.
“Vincent, Diana! You’re here. Perfect timing. Come eat with us.”
“Yeah, Amelia has been waiting for you two all morning. Vincent, sit next to her.”

Everyone started talking at once, trying to push them together.
The servants began bringing food, and everyone moved to the dining room.
Emery and Diana sat side by side, chatting like old friends as they ate.
Only Amelia gave a cold laugh and watched.
Did they seriously think they could plan her life and she’d just go along?
A second later, she crushed their little fantasy.
Instead of sitting next to Vincent, she went for the seat farthest from him, right between Thea and Ursula.
Vincent’s face instantly darkened.
Was she just playing hard to get, or did she truly not care anymore?
Diana didn’t look pleased either.
Her perfect son was handsome and talented. He’d even humbled himself to make Amelia, yet she still acted like she was above it all.
But since they were guests, neither of them caused a scene.

Emery and her three sons also stayed quiet, not wanting to slip up in front of everyone.
In the end, everyone just kept the small talk going, pretending not to notice.
Gianna was the only one enjoying herself.
Seeing how awkward and tense things were, she felt a lot more at ease, knowing there was no way they’d reconcile anytime soon.
After dinner, everyone went outside to chat.
Vincent tried to strike up a conversation with Amelia, and Marcelo even tried to help.
But she even ignored Marcelo, let alone Vincent, who was a stranger to her now.
Her company was busier than ever. She was glued to her phone except when she was talking to Ursula and Thea.
Marcelo finally spoke up, “Amy, it’s rare for Vincent to visit. Why not talk to him a little? You used to say he was smart and fun to chat with.”
