Chapter 160 Total Spineless Idiots
“Don’t you dare accuse me like that! How could I possibly do something like this? Isabel’s my future sister–in–law!” Gianna snapped.
Amelia crossed her arms, a mocking smile playing at her lips.”You sure you really see her as your future sister–in–law?”
Her words instantly reminded Marcelo of what Amelia had said earlier on the yacht, and his face darkened a little.
He did not want to believe that Gianna would actually hurt someone–or that she did not want him to get married and start a family.
But right now, she had been alone with Isabel.
So why did she stop them from being together?
What could her motive possibly be?
None of it made sense.
Gianna’s gaze locked onto her brother’s face, and she caught that faint flicker of doubt in his eyes–a tiny crease in his brow, a glint of uncertainty that stabbed into her chest like a knife.
Cold sweat gathered in her palms as panic quietly crept in.
“Isabel,” Marcelo finally asked, turning toward her, “how did you fall into the water? Did Gianna really push you?”
The sudden question stunned Isabel. She pressed her lips together, eyes complicated.
Instead of answering right away, she looked up and met his gaze. “If I said yes,” she asked softly, “would you believe me?”
Her voice had barely faded when Gianna’s eyes reddened, and her trembling voice came through, full of pitiful grievance.
“Marcelo, you know what kind of person I am. How could I ever push Isabel? Why would I even do that? What good would it do me?
“You told me to keep her company, to introduce her to my friends, so I treated her just like my future sister–in–law.
“But then she suddenly got upset, gave me attitude, and walked away. I chased after her to calm
her down!

“Then I found her here, looking like she was about to do something crazy! I was terrified something would happen to her!
Finished
“And then? Amelia shows up out of nowhere, pushes her, pulls her back up, and now they’re both blaming me! What am I supposed to do?”
Gianna’s voice trembled with sobs as she spoke. Soon, she could not hold back anymore and broke down crying, loud, heart–wrenching, and perfectly pitiful.
With tears glistening on her cheeks, she looked like the very picture of innocence wronged.
Anyone watching would instantly believe she’d been falsely accused.
Finally, she choked out between sobs, “Forget it, if you don’t believe me, just assume I did it then!” and ran off crying.
Amelia almost clapped for her.
Gianna was not completely stupid. She knew there was no evidence and used her tears to flip the narrative, playing the victim so Marcelo would feel guilty instead.
Sure enough, Marcelo’s expression softened immediately.
“Gianna, that’s not what I meant!” he said, then turned and hurried after her without another
word.
Isabel stood frozen, watching her so–called fiancé chase after his sister right after she had almost fallen into the sea.
What kind of logic was that?
If anyone else saw this, they would think she meant nothing to the Nygards at all—that she was just some outsider who was not even worth defending.
Otherwise, how could Marcelo be so cold, leaving her behind when she had just faced death?
Taking a slow breath, Isabel composed herself again, regaining her usual calm and grace.
She walked over to Amelia and said politely, “Thank you for earlier. If you hadn’t shown up when you did, I would’ve been in serious trouble.”
Her tone was tactful, but her meaning was clear.
Amelia shrugged. “Wasn’t luck. I knew she’d try something.”
Her blunt honesty took Isabel by surprise.
