Gianna spoke softly as she handed the glass of orange juice over again.

“I have to say, for someone with hair like a zebra, you sure talk smoothly,” Jeremy cut in before Amelia could even respond.
“Huh?” Gianna froze, stunned that he actually talked to her.
Excited, she glanced at him.
Her eyes carried a faint, flirtatious gleam, like she was trying to charm him.
Jeremy frowned, stepping back with disgust.
“Why are you looking at me like that? You don’t actually think I’m like Vincent, do you? Trying to flirt with me? Please.”
His disgusted tone and his harsh words made Gianna’s face go pale in an instant.
No man had ever spoken to her like that before. Ever.
Whenever girls were mean to her, it was usually out of jealousy. But this? This was straight–up humiliation.
Now, being publicly humiliated like this, she wanted to crawl into a hole and disappear.
“Jeremy, that’s no way to talk to Gianna,” Amelia said with a bright, teasing smile.
She knew just how sharp his tongue could get.
Then she smiled sweetly and added, “Gianna’s amazing, you know. Just by standing on the street and saying nothing, she can make the whole block look bad.”
The jab landed perfectly. Gianna’s pale face turned grim with anger in an instant.
It was almost funny how fast her expression could change,
“You bi-!” she started, but with Jeremy there, she had to hold it in. Her eyes turned red, her face twisted as she fought to stay composed.
“Oh, don’t ‘you–you–you‘ me,” Amelia teased. “Why the tears? Gonna go cry to your brothers again?”
“Alright, alright,” Amelia added mockingly. “Don’t cry. I’ll drink your juice, okay?”

She took the glass straight from Gianna’s hand and downed it in one gulp, right in front of her.
Gianna had been so furious she could spit blood, but as she watched Amelia finally drink the orange juice, her mood eased a little.
“Amelia, I’m not crying,” she said, forcing a smile. “I just think it’s silly for a family to make things ugly like this. Anyway, since you can’t forgive me, I’d better go. Mom just called for me.”
The orange juice was gone, and she had no more reason to keep pretending. She walked away without hesitation.
Just a few steps away, she spotted Diana heading upstairs to the lounge.
A smirk curved Gianna’s lips. Of course, that witch had been watching from the shadows- otherwise, why would Gianna have bothered putting on such a show?
Good. That meant Diana would believe it now. She was probably going to lure Vincent upstairs.
Gianna glanced at the time. She had to move fast. Her plan depended on perfect timing.
As soon as Gianna walked away, Jeremy turned toward Amelia, his face tight with worry.
“That orange juice she gave you looked suspicious. You actually drank it?”
Who knew if that woman had slipped something into it?
Amelia grinned and teased, “Mr. Curran, you’ve got a great talent for spotting hypocrites. Impressive!”
Then she added, half–jokingly, “Relax, I’m a doctor. You think I’d be afraid of her slipping something in my drink? Besides, I don’t think she’d dare do that to me. I think she’s up to something else.”
With her sharp senses for chemicals, Amelia would’ve smelled it immediately if there was anything off about that drink.
Jeremy finally relaxed at the reassurance. If she was that confident, she must’ve known what she was doing.
And with him by her side, no matter what happened, she’d be safe.
He smirked and couldn’t resist teasing her back. “Funny, you were calling me Jeremy just a minute ago. Now it’s suddenly Mr. Curran? Since when did we become such a stranger?”
That was way too formal–he preferred it when she just called him by his name,
Amelia’s ears turned red at his teasing, her heart skipping for a second.
