Marcelo thought to himself, Why wouldn’t she dare to block you? If she doesn’t want to talk to you, of course, she’d do it.
In the end, they had no choice but to borrow a maid’s phone to make the call.
The second it connected, Amelia’s cool, clear voice came through.
Miguel jumped in right away. “Amelia, I heard you want Gianna to apologize publicly. Don’t you think that’s a little extreme? Maybe we can handle this another way?
“After all, Gianna’s still part of the Nygards, and so are you. Why don’t we just sit down and talk like a family? There has got to be another solution.”
Unlike Marcelo and Maxwell, who usually led with orders or temper, Miguel was the calmest of the three brothers.
He’d always gotten along best with Amelia and, in his own way, had cared for her the most.
Maybe it was his background as a lawyer-he was used to negotiating, so his tone naturally came off as patient and diplomatic, like he genuinely wanted to settle things peacefully.
Unfortunately, Amelia wasn’t in the mood to play nice. Her voice came through smooth and
icy.
“Oh? Sure, we can change it up. She can slap herself and apologize publicly instead.”
The call was on speaker, so her words immediately sent everyone in the Nygard house into an
uproar.
Maxwell was the first to explode. “Amelia! How can you be so cruel? Why are you always picking fights with us? Have you forgotten we share the same last name? We’re family!”
Blood is thicker than water! How could this brat be so absolutely ruthless?
“You really are hopeless. Who wants to be family with you? Stop flattering yourselves,” Amelia said flatly.
Her tone was calm, but every word dripped with scorn.
What a joke. These idiots are so easily manipulated by Gianna, and they still have the nerve to call themselves my family.
She knew exactly where her intelligence and sharp instincts came from-Conrad. Certainly not these fools.

Otherwise, she’d probably be another one of Gianna’s little lapdogs by now.
Even Miguel, who liked to think of himself as rational and level-headed, was still clueless.
If he weren’t, he wouldn’t be standing there defending Gianna.
Amelia didn’t deny that Miguel had once treated her kindly, that he’d looked out for her.
But that “care” had always been on his terms, never hers.
He never asked what she wanted.
“In short,” she said coldly, “it’s either a public apology or she slaps herself while she does it. Your choice. And if you call me again about this, I’ll take even that option off the table.”
Her voice carried a kind of effortless arrogance, leaving no room for argument. With that, she hung up.
Her words sent the Nygards into a fresh wave of outrage.
“That ungrateful brat! She’s going to drive me insane!” Emery fumed.
She slammed herself onto the couch, her chest rising and falling in anger.
My three sons are all accomplished men; they are respected and successful, if not perfect.
Even my adopted daughter isn’t exactly remarkable, but she’s always been sweet, well-mannered, and affectionate.
But that ungrateful girl-what does she know about anything?
We raised her with love and luxury, and now that she’s all grown, she turns on her own family!
People say kids tend to drift away once they grow up, but that girl turned downright ungrateful. She’s never appreciative, always biting the hand that fed her, treating her own family like strangers!
“Mom, calm down. Your blood pressure’s already high. Don’t ruin your health over this,” Gianna said gently.
It was her specialty-knowing exactly how to play the comforting daughter.
She rubbed Emery’s back in soothing circles while speaking in a soft, tender voice. She even handed Emery a cup of water.
The comparison made Emery’s heart ache even more.

“Thank God for you, Gianna. Without you, I’d have no one left to rely on,” she said, taking a sip.
Gratitude welled up in her chest. Raymond was right to adopt Gianna all those years ago-she’s the perfect daughter, thoughtful and kind, like a blessing sent straight from heaven.
When Amelia had gone missing, Emery had been devastated. She’d searched everywhere, cried for months, and never stopped hoping.
After giving birth to three sons, having a daughter had felt like a miracle, something precious she’d cherished from birth.
Losing her had nearly destroyed her.
Then one day, Raymond came home with a young girl about Amelia’s age.
He told her he’d been in a car accident while on a business trip-his subordinate had saved his life but hadn’t made it out himself.
