If Amelia hadn’t been the one taking the heat, the whole family would’ve probably ganged up on Marcelo by now.
“That brat already blocked me. I’m not calling her,” Maxwell grumbled, his tone sharp with irritation.
“Well, there’s no other option,” Marcelo said firmly, snapping his fingers in finality before turning to Gianna. “Gianna, whether you like it or not, you’re doing a public apology. Think of it as doing your part for the Nygards.”
The message couldn’t be clearer–after all the years they’d spoiled her, given her every luxury, and treated her like royalty, it was finally her turn to give something back.
“Okay, I understand. I’ll do it,” Gianna replied softly.
Outwardly, she seemed obedient, but inside, she was burning with resentment.
Being forced to publicly apologize to Amelia and Selena felt like the ultimate humiliation.
One of them is a second–rate actress who lost her spot in the Nygards, and the other is just a lip–sync stand- in–both nobodies compared to me.
And I’m expected to apologize publicly to them? What a joke.
I wouldn’t even want to give them a quiet, private apology!
So while she nodded meekly, she secretly threw Maxwell a pleading look.
Her eyes shimmered with that perfect mix of vulnerability and helplessness. And sure enough, Maxwell’s resolve began to crumble.
“Marcelo, maybe we can handle this differently. Just pay Amelia off. A little money should settle it. Why make a big scene with all these pointless apologies?” he said, finally jumping in to
defend her.
“Fine,” Marcelo said coolly. “If you think you can convince her, then call and work it out yourself.”
He wasn’t stopping him–he even threw in a “well–meaning” suggestion, telling Maxwell to call
Amelia himself.
He also added kindly, “You know how Amelia is. Her market value’s through the roof now, and she’s tight with the Currans. You really think you can offer her something she’ll accept?”

“She’s not going to ask for much,” Maxwell said defensively. “Giving her a few resources or offering a collab is already pretty generous.”
Marcelo almost laughed.
“Hah. She doesn’t care about your so–called generosity. She’d see that as us trying to mooch off her fame.”
He knew because he’d tried the same thing before, and it had blown up in his face.
“You’re kidding me,” Maxwell said in disbelief. “She’s that full of herself?”
Gianna, watching from the side, wanted to scream. Gosh, Maxwell is so useless–he can’t get anything done!
She had no choice but to pin her hopes on Miguel. She felt that he was always the calm, smart
one.
Since he was seated next to her, she subtly leaned closer to him and gave him a discreet nudge.
Miguel instantly caught on. He frowned and spoke in a restrained, irritated voice.
“So what does Amelia actually want? Forcing a public apology will wreck Gianna’s image and drag Nygard Group’s reputation through the mud.”
Marcelo gave a humorless chuckle. “What image? She’s already been branded a homewrecker, her movies have tanked, and now she’s lip–syncing. Her reputation’s already shot.”
For once, Marcelo wasn’t even angry. He just sat back, watching his two brothers panic over an adopted daughter, almost amused by how blind they were.
“Marcelo, how can you say that? It’s all just a misunderstanding–you know me better than anyone!”
Gianna’s voice cracked as tears rolled down her cheeks. She never expected him to turn on her like this.
That was all it took for the two brothers and Emery to waver, their sympathy kicking in immediately.
“Marcelo, I know the board’s been giving you hell, but don’t take it out on Gianna,” Miguel snapped. “You’re being too harsh.”
“Exactly. Gianna would never do those things–you know she wouldn’t!” Maxwell added.
Marcelo looked at the three of them, calm and unbothered. “Amelia’s the one insisting on this. Unless you can talk her out of it, I don’t care.”
