Chapter 50 The Charity Gala Invitation
Thea smiled warmly and took her hand. “Thanks to you, otherwise, I wouldn’t even have the chance to sit here.”
“Aunt Thea, you’ll be fine. Don’t worry,” Amelia reassured her softly.
“Amelia, are you hungry? Should I have the maid make your favorite tortellini puttanesca?”
“No rush. Let me check on you first. How’s your sleep lately? Still getting headaches?” Amelia asked, gently holding her wrist.
“No headaches. I’ve been sleeping great, don’t worry.” Thea smiled.
“That’s good.”
“Oh, by the way.” Thea added, “my friend sent me two invitations to a charity gala this weekend. It’s mostly young socialites. You and Demi should go.”
Demi nodded right away. “Amelia, let’s go together. I haven’t been back in a while. I don’t really know the social scene anymore.”
“Sure,” Amelia agreed. “I’m not really familiar with it either. We’ll go together.” Truth was, Amelia couldn’t care less about those fancy events.
All those socialites are pretending to be kind, competing with each other. It made her sick.
But when she saw the hope in Thea’s eyes, she couldn’t say no. In the end, she agreed.
“Perfect!” Demi clapped excitedly. “I brought a few gowns with me. Amelia, we can pick one together!”
Amelia turned back to Thea. “When’s the gala, Aunt Thea?”
“This Saturday. It’s at the Starluxe Hotel.”
Thea smiled at them with pride. “You young ladies should get out more. Oh, and I heard Gianna will be there too–be careful.”
Thea reminded Amelia with concern.
After the surgery, Thea had completely fallen out with Raymond and his family.
Who knew what tricks Gianna might pull this time?
After this episode, Thea had learned to let things go.
Amelia smiled calmly. “Don’t worry. We’ll be fine.”
Of course Gianna would be there. An event like that wouldn’t be complete without her.
But if Gianna tried to start something, Amelia wouldn’t hold back.

Chapter 50 The Charity Gala Invitation
Saturday night, at the Starluxe Hotel.
Amelia and Demi headed out together.
When they arrived at the ballroom, the party was already in full swing.
Finisherf
Under the dazzling crystal chandeliers, elegant guests moved gracefully through the crowd. The air was filled with perfume, laughter, and the soft clinking of champagne glasses.
Amelia walked in with her arm linked through Demi’s. She immediately felt the curious gazes coming from all directions.
“Amelia,” Demi whispered, nodding toward the right, “that’s Gianna.”
“Ignore her,” Amelia said calmly. “Come on, let’s get something to eat first.”
The dinner party that night was casual compared to the usual social events. Everyone was young and dressed in suits and gowns, but their styles were bolder, flashier, and far less traditional.
Across the room, Gianna spotted them and walked over with her friends.
“Amelia! Demi! You’re here too?” Gianna said sweetly, her tone full of fake warmth. “I was actually planning to send you both invitations, but my brother said not to bother. Anyway, I’m so glad you came. I’ll introduce you to some friends later.”
That was Gianna’s specialty–playing nice in public even after they had a falling out with each other. She always acted like the perfect sister while secretly plotting behind the scenes.
Amelia knew that act all too well. On the surface, Gianna looked kind and graceful. Underneath, she was nothing but manipulative.
“No need,” Amelia said calmly. “We’re just here to take a look.” She took Demi’s hand, ready to leave.
That’s when one of Gianna’s friends, Belinda White, spoke up. “Tonight’s mainly a charity auction organized by the socialite circle,” Belinda said smugly. “It’s for a good cause, but everyone here belongs to high society. It’s great you two could come. It’s a nice chance to see how the real world works.”
Everyone knew Amelia had disappeared for years. Rumor had it she’d been living somewhere deep in the mountains or the countryside. Sure, she looked decent now, but in their eyes, she didn’t belong here.
Demi’s face turned pale with anger. “You-”
Amelia pressed Demi’s hand to stop her. She smiled coldly. “Ms. White is right,” she said evenly. “It’s always good to see the world.”
Her eyes swept over Belinda’s overly revealing gown. “Especially those who rely on showing skin to get attention,” Amelia said coolly. “Some of those who claimed to be high–society really opened my eyes tonight.”
Belinda’s face turned crimson. “You tram … !”
Amelia looked at her with pure disdain.
