Casey’s body shook as he dragged himself onto the bed. His skin burned like fire. His breath rattled in harsh gasps.
His face glowed red. His fingers fumbled at his shirt. Buttons tore.
The sight was revolting.
Amelia cast him one cold glance. Without a sound, she vaulted through the window and disappeared into the night.
The trap was set. The play was about to begin.
In the shadows outside, Gianna’s eyes gleamed with delight. Her chest filled with triumph as
she watched Casey stagger inside. She almost clapped her hands in glee.
That notorious rake had nearly drooled at the promise of a beauty.
Soon, the entire hall would see Amelia disgraced.
Soon, Vincent would watch the woman he longed for revealed as nothing more than a whore. Soon, and yet it could not come soon enough for Gianna.
Gianna’s excitement boiled. She wanted to drag Vincent to the scene at once. She wanted him to see Amelia crawl in shame.
She crept to the guest room door. Her nerves twitched at the sounds within. She could not resist. She eased the door open and poked her head inside.
A violent shove struck her from behind. She stumbled forward into the room.
The door slammed shut with a sharp crack.
Gianna froze. Then panic swept over her. She spun and pounded the door with both fists.
“Open the door!”
Her voice shrieked through the air.
“Please! Somebody open the door!”
The heavy scent poured into her lungs. It was thick. It was sweet. Her head spun. Heat slithered through her veins.
Her stomach knotted in dread.

Damn it. Where is Amelia? Where did she go?

Casey heard the cry of a woman. His head jerked up. Bloodshot eyes burned with hunger. A guttural laugh rumbled from his throat.
A woman. Just what he needed.
He staggered from the bed and lunged.
Gianna shrieked. She stumbled back, but Casey’s hand clamped around her wrist. His grip was iron. “Don’t run, baby. Let me take care of you.”
“Get off me!”
She thrashed in fury, but her body betrayed her. Her strength drained away. Her voice cracked. “Do you know who I am? I’m the Nygards‘ second daughter! If you even touch me, my brother will make you pay!”
Casey’s voice rasped low, eaten alive by madness. “I don’t give a damn who you are. Tonight you’re mine. Don’t worry, I’ll treat you sweet.”
She slapped his cheek hard.
The slap rang sharp in the room. Instead of stopping him, it roused the beast inside him.
He ripped at her collar and sneered with a twisted grin. “Fiery. I like that.”
Outside the door, Amelia stood watching with icy eyes. A cruel smile curved her lips. She turned away and glided back toward the banquet.
The hall burst with music and laughter. Guests raised glasses, unaware of the storm rising.
Vincent lingered in the corner, his gaze darting across the crowd.
He had been following Amelia all night. One moment she stood there, the next she had vanished.
At last, she appeared again. A glass of champagne glittered in her hand. Her face was calm. She walked with quiet grace.
Vincent rushed forward, his voice low and urgent. “Amelia, please, can we talk?”
Her reply was sharp as ice. “Mr. Dester, there is nothing left between us.”
He winced. Her words stabbed like a knife.

“Amelia, all the years we had. They meant something. They were real, I know they were.” His tone trembled with desperation.
Her lip curled with disgust. “The years we had? You would have the nerve to bring that up in my presence? What we had is dead. Go enjoy your life with Gianna. May you both rot in it.”
The sting of her scorn pierced him. He could not grasp how the woman who once loved him now looked at him as if he were filth.
Why?
“Amelia, listen. You’re wrong. Gianna is like a sister to me. She’s not my lover.”
He reached for her hand. She slipped away with effortless grace.
“Like a sister?” Her laugh was sharp and bitter. “You clutched her like she meant a lot more than a sister to you. You clung to her like she was your lover. Tell me, what kind of brother jumps at his sister’s every call like a servant? Pathetic.”
“No! That’s not what it is!”
Vincent’s voice cracked as panic gripped him. “Amelia, I confess, I messed up. Please, give me another chance. I’ll do anything.”
She lifted the glass to her lips. She sipped. Her eyes stayed cold.
His pleas meant nothing. She was waiting for the show.
It came soon.
Gasps tore through the hall. Shouts echoed against the walls.
“Oh my God! Something happened in the guest rooms!”
