Chapter 606 Awakening
If not for Nolan’s quick reaction, Wendy would have taken her secrets to the grave.
“How is she?”

“The bullet missed her heart. She’ll survive… but,” the doctor hesitated, “someone without the will to live may never wake.”
Wendy had lost her only reason to keep breathing. Even if her body recovered, her spirit might
not.
Eliza turned to Henry. “For years, Wendy lived only for Morten. But just now, she destroyed her last hope with her own hands. I fear she won’t want to go on.”
Henry was silent.
“I find something strange,” Eliza continued.
“What is it?”
“Was Morten’s so–called suicide from depression really true?”
“You suspect his death?”
“Think about it. Felix loved Wendy dearly. For the sake of the family, he forced her to marry Leo. By rights, he should have felt guilty. Even if he dismissed Morten, he wouldn’t have let something happen to him. And then to arrange for Morten to escort Wendy to her wedding? Wasn’t that like twisting a knife into her heart?”
“You’re right,” Henry admitted quietly. “Morten didn’t die of depression. That was just what the press reported. Later I found out the truth. He came from a poor background. Handsome, yes, but he worked in nightclubs when he was young–he knew well how to please people. When he saw the Foster family was hiring bodyguards, he noticed my aunt in a newspaper photo. He deliberately applied, scheming to get close to her. My father discovered this but kept it from my aunt, not wanting to break her heart. He even told her Morten died depressed, so she could at least believe their love hadn’t been a lie.”
“So from the start, he only used her? He never loved her at all? And Wendy spent all these years trapped in a false memory?”
Eliza was shocked. Wendy wasn’t the naive twenty–year–old girl anymore–she was a woman in her forties. Could she really have never uncovered Morten’s past? A woman that devoted would have investigated. She had to have known.
Frowning, Eliza said, “Wendy has no will to live now. So I’ll try something.”

Chapter 606 Awakening
“Try what?” Henry asked, confused.
There was no time to explain. What mattered was jolting Wendy back into consciousness.
Eliza pushed her way into the operating room.
The surgery was done, but Wendy remained unconscious. The doctors looked uneasy as Eliza approached the table. They thought to stop her, but remembering who she was, they stepped aside.
Standing over the pale figure, Eliza began to speak, her voice sharp as a blade.
“All this, for a man who never loved you? How pathetic. Morten only wanted your beauty and your title as the Foster family’s daughter. He used you to climb higher. And you, Wendy, the so- called brilliant woman, destroyed yourself for him. You became a venomous, ruthless woman- all for a man like that? It’s laughable! And now you want to die? Even more shameful!”
