Morton was furious and didn’t want to hear another word from Jeremy. He hung up the phone abruptly.
Jeremy’s face darkened instantly after the call was cut off.
After a while, his phone rang again.
It was a video call from his wife, Mia.
Jeremy’s originally tired expression quickly transformed, like a spring breeze passing over, into a gentle and doting smile. He answered the call without hesitation.
“Honey, I’ve been waiting for your call for so long. How have you been lately? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
he asked tenderly, his eyes filled with genuine concern.
Mia smiled and said, “Honey, I’m fine! Don’t worry unnecessarily. With Mom, the nanny, the nutritionist, and the family doctor taking such good care of me at home, how could I possibly feel unwell?”
The couple exchanged a few sweet words, and then Mia suddenly seemed worried about something.
“By the way, honey, let me tell you something. Tonight, Mr. Morton called us, and Mom happened to answer it.
He said that Wendy had attempted suicide and insisted that Mom call Jon to take care of Wendy.
Fortunately, Mom was clear–headed and wasn’t at all manipulated by Mr. Morton. She flatly refused his unreasonable demand.
Mom also said that our family could repay the Moore family economically or in other ways, but we absolutely couldn’t force Jon to do something he doesn’t want to do.”
After hearing this, Jeremy’s heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally relaxed a bit. He let out a long sigh and said, “That’s such a relief. Mom is indeed very clear–headed. I was worried that she might be led around by Mr. Morton.”
Mia said indignantly, “Over the years, Mr. Morton has become more and more outrageous! Mom had seen through what kind of person he was long ago. How could she possibly still believe what he says?
Moreover, Mom has mentioned many times that Wendy’s personality is not suitable to be Jon’s wife at all, and not even fit as our family’s daughter–in–law!”
After venting her frustration, Mia immediately followed up with a question. “So, how are things going between Jon and Ms. Hayes? Jon is almost 30. He finally met a girl he likes. We can’t let Wendy mess things
You’re in Javerton now. You have to help Jon a lot. In short, if Jon doesn’t get married, don’t even think about coming back to Kingston.”
Mia had grown up with the Bennett brothers since she was a child, and they had a very deep bond,

especially with Jonathan. Since she didn’t have a little brother, she had always treated Jonathan like her own brother.
my dear Hearing Mia’s words, Jeremy couldn’t help but show a bitter smile and replied helplessly, “Mia, wife, why don’t you ever think about sparing your own husband some concern? You only care about Jon.
I’ve been busy here in Javerton for such a long time. Don’t you miss me at all? Don’t you want me to come back to Kingston to be with you and our son for the New Year?”
Mia giggled and cooed, “Honey, you need to make more money so that I and the kids have money to spend. Besides, even though we don’t see each other, don’t we make three or four video calls a day?”
Jeremy rarely had to travel for work and had always lived a life shuttling between home and the office.
However, this time, due to a major mess at the branch company, the general manager and the entire senior management team were all detained, and the personnel, business, and performance were in complete disarray.
With no other choice, he had to reluctantly step in to clean up the mess himself and he was so disappointed.
Back in Kingston, I could stick to Mia every day. I could wake up every morning and see my lovely wife, giving her a good morning kiss.
I would even bring Mia to work with me, not wanting to be separated for a moment.
Now, it has been 49 days since I last saw Mia.
