Isabelle sighed. “Naomi, you’re finally back. When you were traveling abroad, I was so upset and couldn’t find anyone to talk to.”
“I’m back now. Tell me everything. I’ll definitely stand by your side and won’t let you be wronged.”
Prompted by Naomi, Isabelle finally tearfully said, “That Estella, after her divorce, came back to cling to Nathaniel. I don’t know what got into Nathaniel, but he actually wants to reconcile with her. Because of Estella, Nathaniel doesn’t even talk to me anymore.”
Naomi was furious and said, “How can my brother be so unfair? I’ll go and talk some sense into him!”
Isabelle quickly held her back, “Don’t go. If you do, Nathaniel will hate me even more.”
“Are we just going to let this slide?”
Isabelle took her hand and pointed out, “The key isn’t my brother; it’s Estella. She’s standing between me and your brother, which is why I can’t be with him.”
Naomi thought Isabelle made sense.
If Estella really reconciled with my brother, wouldn’t I have to face that bankrupt and shabby sister–in–law again?
The thought made Naomi feel as if she had swallowed a fly.
She assured Isabelle, “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure Estella completely disappears from my brother’s world. In my heart, only you are worthy of my brother.”
Seeing that Naomi was willing to stand up for her, Isabelle felt a surge of happiness.
Even if Nathaniel found out, it would be Naomi’s doing, and she wouldn’t be implicated at all.
Estella was cooking at home when she heard the doorbell ring.
She went to open it and found her mother, Victoria, who was clearly in a bad mood.
Victoria gave her a disapproving look and scolded as soon as she entered, “I don’t know why you’re so foolish. You have a big house to live in and a good life to enjoy, but you insist on coming to this small apartment to suffer and try to start a business. Aren’t you afraid you’ll end up losing all your money?”
Ignoring her mother’s nagging, Estella brought over a bowl of soup and fed her a spoonful.
After talking so much, Victoria was parched and didn’t refuse. She took a sip and her eyes lit up.
“Your cooking skills have improved a lot!”
She also suddenly felt a pang of sadness.

Estella smiled lightly. “The three years I spent at the Hartwell family’s place weren’t wasted. I had to research and cook delicious meals for Nathaniel every day. On New Year’s Eve every year, I had to prepare a big table of dishes, working from morning till night. How could my cooking skills not improve?”
Victoria felt a lump in her heart.
“But they’re so rich. Don’t they have a nanny?”
Estella sneered, “My status doesn’t match their family. How could I gain their real respect? In their eyes, I was there to serve them.”
After suffering for three years, I now felt it was better to rely on myself now.
Victoria had intended to continue persuading her daughter to go back, but hearing about her daughter’s life in the past three years made her hesitate.
I had thought that with Nathaniel’s favor, Estella must have had a good life at the Hartwell family’s place.
I didn’t expect that she had been constantly made difficult.
Previously, I had been resolute in wanting her to reconcile with my son–in–law, but suddenly I began to waver.
Seeing the hesitation on her mother’s face, Estella smiled and didn’t say more.
I knew that if I said too much, she wouldn’t believe me.
In the future, I would gradually tell her about my past grievances, and she would probably understand why I had to get a divorce.
After finishing dinner, Estella went to wash the dishes.
Victoria didn’t want to be idle, so she took the trash downstairs and went for a walk to digest her meal.
Estella poked her head out of the kitchen and said to her, “Mom, don’t go too far, or I’ll worry.”
Victoria replied, “I know, I’ll be right back. I’ll go downstairs and buy some fruit.”
Estella wanted to say there was no need, as there was plenty of fruit at home, but Victoria had already closed the door and left.
After washing the dishes, Estella noticed her mother hadn’t returned and felt puzzled, so she went downstairs to look for her.
She didn’t find her mother near the trash bin or the fruit store.
