The arts center was struggling to enroll new students.
After discussing it with Selene, Estella came up with an idea.
She decided to join a singing competition hosted by Javerton TV.
Estella had majored in piano in college and was a decent singer too. She had participated in several piano and singing contests before–and had even won awards.
Of course, compared to professional singers, she still had a gap to bridge.
But as Selene pointed out, Estella’s biggest advantage was her looks. She could easily build a fan base with her appearance alone.
And along the way, she could help bring attention and traffic to their arts center.
Estella agreed it was a good plan and signed up for the competition.
Selene gave her a full month off to focus on preparing.
Estella’s voice, striking appearance, and piano skills helped her breeze through the preliminary auditions.
The TV station required contestants to move into dorms arranged by the production team for closed training and reality show filming.
Estella asked Selene to visit Victoria on the weekends, and Selene agreed without hesitation.
And just like that, Estella entered the dormitory arranged by the show.
Each room housed three people.
Her roommates were Elenor and Donna.
Both were music school graduates hoping to break into the entertainment industry by gaining experience and visibility.
Elenor was proud and aloof, not blending in with the others. Estella didn’t interact with her
much.
Donna, on the other hand, was cheerful and outspoken. A native of Javerton, she got along well
with Estella.

When she heard Estella had started an arts center and joined the show for indirect publicity, Donna gasped in disbelief.
“Estella, with your looks, it’s such a waste not to be in the entertainment world!”
Estella chuckled. “I’ve heard the entertainment industry isn’t short on pretty faces. Once this is over, I still want to focus on my business.”
Donna nodded. “True. Nowadays, only the rich kids get ahead. People like us just fill the ranks. If I’m still a nobody at thirty, I’ll apply to your center. You’d better take me in.”
Estella laughed. “You’re welcome anytime. We’re short on music teachers. When we expand into vocal training, we’ll need someone exactly like you.”
The two got along great, practicing together and often sharing meals.
One day, they were in the cafeteria when they spotted Elenor holding hands with one of the show’s directors.
Donna leaned in and whispered, “I’ve seen them together a bunch of times–eating, flirting. That’s Mr. Lewis. Word is, he’s married. Could be an affair. I mean, Mr. Lewis is old enough to be her dad. Girl must be starving.”
Estella gave her hand a light tap. “Let’s not get involved in other people’s business.”
Donna stuck out her tongue. “Just venting.”
Soon, the first elimination round arrived.
Estella felt she did pretty well.
But she only placed 30th–barely avoiding elimination.
Donna made 20th.
Elenor? Sixth.
That night, after Elenor left the room, Donna vented to Estella in a low voice. “Don’t you think this show is rigged? Elenor went off–key and forgot lyrics, and she still ranked sixth? You sang flawlessly and nearly got cut? Feels like someone’s got it out for you.”
Estella could only smile bitterly.
She’d hoped the competition would give her some exposure and help attract attention to the arts center. But now, it all seemed a bit naïve.

Donna quickly tried to lift her spirits. “Don’t give up! Your online votes are actually pretty high. You still have a chance.”
