Chapter 141 Scars and Reckoning
“How nice… I still get to see you worry about me.”
Nathaniel’s voice was faint, barely above a whisper.

Estella stared at him, eyes rimmed red. Despite everything he’d done to hurt her in the past— his betrayal, his coldness–she couldn’t deny the truth staring her in the face: he had just taken a knife for her.
She couldn’t walk away and pretend it didn’t happen.
Nearby, Winson had already subdued Britney. She thrashed wildly in his grip, screaming, “Winson, why are you stopping me?! Let me kill that woman! Once she’s gone, you’ll be mine again!”
The other guests in the restaurant had already fled in terror.
The manager had quickly called the police.
Winson and Britney were both taken away in handcuffs.
Estella, however, got into the ambulance with Nathaniel.
He lay on the stretcher, hand gripping hers tightly.
The confidence and arrogance once etched into his face had all but vanished. Now, he looked fragile. Human.
“Estella… I know I was wrong. Please, forgive me… I really love you. Please, believe me…”
Estella didn’t respond. She simply sat in silence, her eyes fixed on his pale face.
She was grateful–he’d saved her life.
But that didn’t erase the damage he had done before.
Love didn’t overwrite pain that easily.
When he realized she wouldn’t answer, Nathaniel gave a faint, bitter smile.
“So… you still hate me, don’t you?”
Moments later, the medics rolled him into the operating room.
Estella remained in the hallway, waiting.

She didn’t expect Madeline to come storming down the corridor.
The moment the woman saw her, she slapped Estella across the face.
“I heard Nathaniel got hurt because of you!” Madeline shrieked. “How dare you let my son get hurt for your sake? You threw my daughter in jail, now you’re hurting my son too! You’re a curse to this family! What did we ever do to deserve you? We paid your mother’s hospital bills! What’s wrong with you serving my son a little in return? He still cares about you, and you should be grateful! You should thank him for loving you! But no–you act out like a greedy, ungrateful little tramp! You’re vile!”
Estella stood there calmly, not reacting.
These same insults had been hurled at her so many times before, they no longer made her flinch.
If Nathaniel hadn’t taken that knife for her, she would’ve walked away the moment she saw Madeline.
Seeing her unmoved, Madeline grew even more furious.
“Are you deaf?! You’re not even going to respond? If you had any shame, you’d be groveling for forgiveness!”
Just then, a calm, steady voice interrupted.
“Ma’am, Estella is a human being, not a piece of property. Your words are disgraceful.”
Estella turned her head. Jonathan had arrived.
His presence, his voice–it grounded her instantly.
Madeline sneered, “And who the hell are you to talk to me like that?”
Jonathan’s tone remained icy. “I heard everything you just said. If you wanted someone to take care of your son, you should have hired a caretaker.
Not chosen a daughter–in–law you thought you could bully, and expect her to serve your son while enduring your abuse.
And if she was legally your daughter–in–law, your son also had a legal duty to contribute to her mother’s care.”
Madeline opened her mouth to argue but nothing came out.
She glared at Jonathan, visibly rattled.

“So what? We paid her mom’s medical bills! Nathaniel took a knife for her! She owes us- doesn’t she owe us something for all we’ve done?”
Estella had had enough.
