This is my seat, Ms. Moore,Lana said loudly. Sorry about that.

Wendy glared at her, fuming.

But Jonathan didn’t lift a finger to help her, so she had no choice but to find another place.

Fixing her eyes on Estella, Wendy said with false sweetness, Ms. Hayes, I heard studied

you piano. Since everyone’s in such a lively mood, why don’t you give us a performance?

The jab was obvious.

Jonathan cut her off. If you want to hear music, Ms. Moore, there’s a piano in the lobby. Why don’t you go listen there?

Color drained from Wendy’s face. Jonathan, I didn’t mean it like that, she mumbled.

The others stifled laughter.

Estella’s lips twitched too.

Jonathan was worlds apart from Nathaniel in this.

Nathaniel would have left her to endure humiliation alone.

Jonathan, though, never hesitated to stand up for her.

That was what made her feel safe with him.

Wendy shrank back, quietly eating her food.

Then Jonathan’s phone rang.

He glanced at the caller ID, a smile tugging at his lips.

Answering, he said, Yes, she’s here. Come right over. Mm, understood.”

When he hung up, Estella asked curiously, Someone else is joining us?

Jonathan’s smile deepened. Yes. Someone who can handle Wendy.

Her curiosity only grew at his calm confidence.

Five minutes later, the door swung open and a tall, blond, blueeyed man walked in.

Estella blinked. That’s who you meant?

Jonathan nodded. That’s him.

Wendy had been biding her time, ready to needle Estella again. But when she turned and saw him, her eyes widened. Perry?

The man’s face lit up. He rushed toward her. Wendy! I finally found you. How could you come back to the country without telling me? I’ve been looking everywhere!

Just hearing his voice gave Wendy goosebumps.

Perry had been her classmate abroad and if she had pursued Jonathan with madness, then Perry had pursued her with twice the obsession.

He shoved aside the person next to her, plopping down at her side, gazing at her as if she were the only one in the world. Aren’t you happy to see me?

Wendy forced a smile. Happy, my ass.

Turning to Jonathan, she stammered, Jonathan, don’t misunderstand. Perry and I are just classmates.

Jonathan chuckled. I’m not misunderstanding. Because frankly, I don’t care.

The words cut deeper than a blade.

Wendy’s chest tightened. She had worked so hard to carve out this chance with Jonathan, only for Perry to crash it all.

Estella noticed the stormclouds on Wendy’s face and leaned toward Jonathan. How do you even know him?

Jonathan explained casually, I didn’t, at first. Perry found me through Wendy’s socials, got my contact, and started messaging me. He liked to imply he and Wendy were a couple, and I was the intruder. Honestly, people like him and Wendy I’ll never understand them. I thought love meant respecting someone. If they reject you, you walk away with dignity. But they don’t understand respect. They want to force people to accept them. So since Wendy enjoys disgusting me, I decided to let Perry disgust her instead.”

Estella covered her mouth, laughing softly.

Jonathan’s way of thinking wasuniquely effective.

Meanwhile, Wendy’s mood plummeted. Perry’s endless devotion made her want to crawl out of

her skin.
