Only after Estella was taken away did Jonathan return to confront Nathaniel, who was being escorted to the patrol car. His eyes were as cold as steel.

Nathaniel showed not the slightest remorse. He glared viciously. “Even if Estella divorces me, she’ll always be mine. Jonathan, you’ll never have her!”

Jonathan didn’t bother with words. His fist answered for him, slamming into Nathaniel’s face.

Corbin made no move to stop him. Only after Jonathan pulled back did he nod for the officers. to take Nathaniel away.

Jonathan followed to give his statement. He had no intention of letting Nathaniel off lightly.

When the paperwork at the station was finished, Jonathan prepared to head to the hospital.

Corbin stopped him. “Mr. Bennett, I’ll come with you. I need to ask the victim some questions.”

Jonathan knew Estella would want Nathaniel punished to the fullest extent, so he agreed.

As they walked out, he noticed the bruise blooming on Corbin’s face–no doubt from Nathaniel’s struggle.

“You should have that looked at,” Jonathan said quietly. “I’ll cover the bill.”

Corbin shook his head. “Thanks, but it’s just a scratch. No need.”

Respectful on his uncle’s orders, he kept his tone polite.

Before going inside, Jonathan stopped to buy toiletries, oats, fruit, and a bouquet of fresh

flowers.

Corbin couldn’t help but admire him. “You think of everything, Mr. Bennett. With you taking care of her, Ms. Hayes will recover in no time.”

He hadn’t expected a man of Jonathan’s standing to be so considerate. That woman, Estella, was lucky. Once she married into the Bennett family, her life would be transformed.

Jonathan said nothing, simply carried the bags in.

Inside, Estella had just been given an injection and was asleep. Neither man wished to disturb her, so they sat in the corridor outside.

To pass the time, Corbin glanced sideways at Jonathan, curiosity gleaming in his eyes. “Mr. Bennett, are you and Ms. Hayes together? When’s the wedding?”

Jonathan gave no reply.

Corbin chuckled and filled the silence himself. “She’s stunning. No wonder Nathaniel can’t let her

1. go. But if you want to be with her, you’d better move fast. Once you’re married, he’ll have to give up.”

Jonathan doubted it would be so simple. Nathaniel’s obsession was twisted, not rational. Divorce hadn’t broken his hold; in his mind, Estella was still his possession. Such thinking couldn’t be reasoned away.

Meanwhile, Richie, ordered to trail Jonathan, followed them into the hospital. After watching him sit in the hall with the officer, doing nothing unusual, Richie finally slipped away.

Back with Madam Rosemary, he relayed everything. “I saw Mr. Jonathan go into a villa with a policeman. They arrested someone and brought him to the station, then went to the hospital. The two of them sat outside, chatting while they waited for the victim to wake up. Looked to me like Jonathan was just handling a case.”

Madam Rosemary frowned. “That female victim–don’t tell me she’s close to Jonathan?”

Richie shook his head. “Doesn’t seem that way. If they were close, he’d have stayed by her side. I also heard at the station that she’s her attacker’s ex–wife. There’s no way Mr. Jonathan would go for a divorced woman.”
